niether...both are illusions......................
Question Author
what do you mean by illusions? what I mean is, what do people believe when they are religious or spiritual, and how do they differ?
Rubbish! I'm Spiritual but not religious. I will not subscribe to any one religion, but I will embrace the worthwhile aspects that you find in the differing religions. To me, most religion is just humbug, and is based on myth and loose fact from times long gone when things couldn't be explained very well, but some of the ethics and values are worth accepting as part of society and our lives.
I have to agree with Postdog, I too aspire to spiritual beings, forces, emotions etc. but in no way would I consider myself religious. In fact I'm agnostic.

To be 'spiritual' is to be aware of what the Bible teaches us about Almighty God. It takes quite a bit of study.
To be 'religious' is to blindly believe what some religions teach, without ever checking whether those 'facts' are supported by the Bible or not. For example the Catholic religion has many statues including a lot of Mary. Mostly holding the 'baby' Jesus. Jesus grew up. And taught us a lot in the three years he preached. Praying to a statue of Mary and her 'baby' is not supported by the Bible. Jesus himself said that Almighty God, Jesus' father, could ONLY be approached in prayer THROUGH Jesus. And no one else.
It is not possible to be spiritual going solo. Jesus had his organisation of Apostles and then disciples. ORGANISATION IS ESSENTIAL>
