On the thread about the Taliban banning chess someone made the comment that they basically hate anything that people could find enjoyable. Is that really what the prophet intended? A life of toil, worshipp and generally misery? They seem to ban anything that can be enjoyable, food, drink, games, sports, past times. Did he really intend that? .....doubly so for the women.

Somewhat similar to the life monks used to lead here.

I don't believe so.

Question Author

12:22 only the non immaculate form.

Isn't that the problem with all religions, interpretations vary, from "leading a good life" to living on the top of a pillar, preaching, praying and starving.

//only the non immaculate form.//

What do you mean?

Question Author

12:39 it was a pun naomi, lighten up.

Lighten up?  I've asked you a question, that's all.

I think the prophet may have been mentally ill. While he clearly didn't deny himself the pleasures of the connubial bed, it's hard to know his opinions on other innocent pleasures.

Question Author

12:48 so the word "immaculate" didn't give you any sort of clue?

sandyRoe, his thoughts on other things are fairly well documented.

TTT. only that you don't understand the word... which is why I asked ... but never mind.

I've not read the Quran, so don't know much about his opinions.

sandyRoe, his thoughts are not restricted to the Koran.

Question Author

12:55 on what do you base that assumption?

You've never heard of "the immaculate conception"? You appear to have led a very sheltered life.

TTT. I've heard of it but as I suspected, you very clearly have no idea what it means.

Question Author

13:06 again, on what do you base that assumption?

FGS love chill out it was a bit of a pun that's all, you could start a fight with yourself.

oh dear - tweedle-dum & tweedle-dee at it again...

How much weight can be given to the hadiths?

TTT, I base that assumption on your posts.  And incidentally, I have a name and it isn't love.

sandyRoe, //How much weight can be given to the hadiths?//

Quite a lot.
