Prudie, whether it be hatred of ideology or people, the question is about the effects of hatred upon the soul so your answer is very relevant to the thread.   Reading untitled's answers elsewhere this morning got me thinking about it. I would hate to harbour all consuming hatred such as that.  I've no doubt whatsoever it has a damaging effect upon the tranquility of mind and spirit.

there are things in this world worth hating. some reserve hatred for people who are vulnerable and can't fight back. i personally feel hatred for the people who abuse others and facilitate extreme harm.

I hate paedophiles, whatever their colour or religion and by hate I mean I could kick them to an inch of their lives (perhaps further)

Does it have a detrimental effect upon the spirit?

Not that I've noticed.

I don't think so because it is not all consuming.

I hate hatred.

I've never known hate, hating or hatred to lead to an improved outcome beyond the recognition of hate as an indicator that something needs changing. When I find myself hating someone or something I ask what I need to do to remedy whatever it is that makes hating seem to be the only option.

I find hate apart from an understanding of its cause and cure to be self-fulfilling and ultimately a dead end.
