A discussion instigated by Khandro in 'News' has turned into a debate on religion but is now almost off the front page. If anyone is interested in pursuing this further, since this is a more appropriate place to continue the discussion, a link to the original is here.

If it’s a choice between Genesis and its enormous implications for man and the AB version, I would without doubt prefer the latter.
I thought so.
// Goodlife, This thread isn’t a platform for you to preach.//

goodlife - Naomi in the past has been a strong advocate for free speech - (that let me remind you is NOT - you can only say what I want you to say) - right on Naomi !

Roman 6 -I will read

and - - nothing new if you know the bible - I dont think nuclear reactors are described in the Bible whereas I was assured by a muslim that they were in the Koran.....

If they squawk, you are challenging them Goodie
//The book of Genesis tells us why we are in the situation we are today. It doesn’t matter how much you deny the facts. It is there and if you ever visited the National Museum you will see that there are copies from the earliest manuscripts which confirm the Bible//
Got a link goodlife or are you just reiterating what your Watchtower says?

Does the National Museum have *original* manuscripts or just copies?
If its just *copies* then what does it confirm other than early religionists copied the writings of other people?
//The book of Genesis tells us why we are in the situation we are today//
The book of Genesis tells us that man is made of dirt and that woman is an evolved rib.
It tells us that we once lived in an enchanted garden.
(With, yes, a talking snake)
And that partaking of a magical piece of fruit is the cause of all ills...including cancer, earthquakes, Covid, Child abuse, murder, rape and Traffic wardens.

It also tells us that we can influence the colour of future livestock by placing leaves in front of breeding pairs, that people can turn in to a table commodity (salt) by turning their heads, and that if you offered your daughters to be raped you would in future be called 'Righteous'
Genesis also tells us that God (loving being that he is) also drowned an entire planet...babies, kids, animals etc.
Not only that, he drowned the planet to wipe out the Nephilim.
Unfortuanatly the Nephilim continued to exist afterwards.
Something went wrong....

Bible verses upon request.
(This wont interest the average 'I accept whatever my priest, preacher, Vicar, etc) says to me kind of person.
Only the inquisitive.
nailit;//Got a link goodlife or are you just reiterating what your Watchtower says?//

I don't read the Watchtower, but I don't need a 'link' to prove that you're understanding of genesis barely gets above that of a six year old.
Khandro; could you perhaps explain Genesis a little instead of simply accusing people of being too thick to understand it? I'm afraid your link to the puppet man didn't get me anywhere, so I didn't learn anything there.
Question Author
Khandro, you believe a book written thousands of years ago by authors unknown contains a message for the future …. and you accuse others of having the intellect of a six year old? Might I suggest you have a serious think about that.
Atheist; //could you perhaps explain Genesis a little instead of simply accusing people of being too thick to understand it? I'm afraid your link to the puppet man didn't get me anywhere, so I didn't learn anything there.//

There's not a lot I can do about that. I could say though that in his novel 'Doctor Faustus' Thomas Mann gave the protagonist; Leverkühn Kleist's essay on the marionette theatre as 'compulsive reading' . Similarly Hugo von Hofmannsthal described it as "the most perceptive piece of philosophy since Plato (a bit over the top, but you get his drift) & Rilke in a letter to his friend, Princess Marie told of his admiration for 'this master work, the essay on the marionette theatre'.

naomi; //you believe a book written thousands of years ago by authors unknown contains a message for the future//

Heraclitus, Aristotle, Shakyamuni Buddha, & many more, all wrote 'thousands of years ago' & their words are as true today as they were then & will be so in the future.

Question Author
Which bit of it are you convinced is a prophecy for the future, Khandro?
n. I haven't used the word 'prophesy', I said it [Genesis] has enormous implications for humanity. It has in the past, it has in the present & it will have always.
which bits are prophetic for the future? Naomi

eerie music - PP dressed as Mystic meg---- woooo-oooo I predict that whatever Khandie says, Naomi will just call it rubbish !

100% right huh reader?

as for how do we know the Henesis we have now is the Genesis of christs time and before 1000 BC

start at Metzger - the NT - canon of the NT

Metzger goes thro it - as for transmission of the NT you use the same techniques for " how do we know that the Shakespeare that shakey wrote is the stuff we hear now?" - - no manscript of Shakey exists by the way, as contemporaneously Jonson and others were more favoured
Question Author
Khandro, ok, I’ll try again. What implications - or since you’re so reluctant to tell us what you’re talking about is it a secret that only you and Goodlife are privy to?
No, you tell me. Do you actually understand what the third book of genesis is about?
\\ No, you tell me. Do you actually understand what the third book of genesis is about?//
Typical reply by somebody when they can/will not answer a question.
Khandro, it seems to me that it's about a god creating animals, forbidding them from eating a certain fruit (maybe this is symbolic of sex?), them eating the fruit and suddenly realising that nakedness and sex are shameful, and god punishing them for disobedience by making them suffer for the rest of time. The people who wrote this seem to me to be completely screwed up about human nature.
Question Author
Khandro, I don't believe you can answer my question - which is why you won't. Your airy fairy notions of that which doesn't exist have the better of you again.
Atheist: Your synopsis is worthy of a prize, though I'd better not say for what.

naomi: Will you answer my question at 10:36 please?
