Atheists, of the many misconceptions believers have about atheists, what are some that you experienced directly in interactions with believers that were especially irritating?

//that is the one you find at the end of the bible

No we werent, but thanks anyway....
Ive only ever paid a passing visit here recently...
Now I know why!
PP, Revelation …
Mamyalynne, unless you attend church regularly or Bible classes or something similar I’d hazard a guess that you’ve discussed religion very rarely in the real world. There’s a reason you see it more here … but I think you know that.

Ok I just got back on here after sleep last night then breakfast and class this morning but yeah I agree completely Naomi it’s sad that believers blindly think atheists lack morals and I agree Andy the sense of moral superiority is a majorly bothersome thing.

Fearing what you don't understand is human nature, but I believe that atheists understand Christians, even if they don;t agree with them, far better than Christians understand atheists.

A generalisation yes, but that does not mean that it is not accurate.
Question Author
Andy I agree. It is the Christians that are often the most misguided when it comes to understanding atheists, and having spent a few years as a devout Christian, I can confirm that because I myself was exactly that way during those times I used to think stuff like atheists have no hope without belief in an afterlife and they love their sin so that’s why they deny God but now as a person questioning and conflicted about religion I see that those claims are total hogwash.
Question Author
Wow Nailit, I myself am 21 and going through exactly that transition. Yes, the hypocrisy of church scandals really bothers me too and very true that many atheists know the Bible much better than a lot of Christians. In fact, The Bible often helps fuel their de-conversion because of its many passages that don’t ring true or as morally right.
20.34. I don’t fear what I don’t understand. If I don’t understand I ask.

Same here Naomi. And as a matter of fact, answers are one thing many Christians are super weak at like I asked my now retired pastor why if people don’t know Jesus they go to hell and all he could think of to answer was “all I can really say first and foremost is because that’s what it says in the Bible I can’t explain why but God has only made one way to Heaven and the only alternative is hell.”

Neither do I, but exceptions prove the rule.
AH, Exceptions prove there is no rule.

Evan, what kind of church do you or did you attend?
Question Author
Naomi my mom and I go to a non-Denominational church called Refuge they are actually nice and welcoming to people in fact today my mom told me they gave me free coffee to a homeless person and that made the homeless person really happy and the people are nice and the sermons can be uplifting and they don’t focus too much on explicitly pointing out that everyone else is going to hell and I haven’t ever been to a sermon where they brought up homosexuality but they certainly are more Evangelical and biblical literalist than me based on their site information listing their beliefs they do believe Jesus is the only way.
Thanks for that Evan. I just had a look at their blurb which includes the line ‘Many of the children we minister to are not yet redeemed or saved’ - and I stopped right there. Those people are screwing with minds.
Question Author
Wow that is very bad. What exactly does the phrase screwing with minds mean?
It means messing people up mentally.
Question Author
Ok. You mean by telling them they’re bad and doomed unless they get saved right?
