A bit of a hiatus (lockdown, work, personal things etc) but finally read the Bible all the way through, again!
How on earth can anybody read this mess and believe its the word of (any) God is beyond me.
Read about a 3rd of it and left of for a bit. (TBH the unrelenting slaughter was getting to me a bit) Picked up again and read whole books at a time. The contradictions alone had me questioning, never mind the bloodshed etc (That was before I got to the new Testament).
Then the New Testament accounts doent agree with each other.
I tried.
The bible is a crock.
Different books, Different authors, different theologies.

Modern church...
We'll try to reconcile them all and call it the bible...
Good luck with that one.

If the religious here gave a moment’s thought to their own absence of belief in Zeus or Odin, they would understand how atheists feel about their God.
Nailit, when have I treated you in the way you describe?
Don't !et your anger blind you.
Quite right Nailit, I am not and never will be a fundamentalist, a closed mind leads to a lonely life.

I have too much love in my heart to close myself off in that way.
Mamya - I agree.
Nailit needs to tell us what the traits of a fundamentalist are as he understands the term, and how that related to Answerbank.
Theland, //I can only ever tell you what I believe from the scriptures, what they say.//

If you really believe what the scriptures say you would know that Jesus didn’t come for you. He said so. Christianity is the greatest lie ever told.

On more than one occasion Theland, you have implied that I (and others) are doomed to a miserable eternity when we question your faith. Why would you do that? Wouldnt it be more 'friendly' and in the spirit of compassion to simply debate and try to persuede us that we are wrong. But no! You get stuck on a question asked of you and out comes the ''you'll get what you want'' quote along with the implied/veiled threat of an eternal torment.
If I really believed what you proffess to believe, I would crawl across the length of Britain on broken glass to save someone from the hell that you believe is so awful. Not have a hissy fit.

BTW, I'm not blinded by any anger.

//Christianity is the greatest lie ever told//
You could say its cruciFICTION...
Hissy fits are not part of my agenda.
You ask about the scriptures in which I believe and I give my understanding of them.
I didn't write them!
Why get angry?
That is your opinion.
Fair enough.
I still don't understand your anger.
Theland, //I still don't understand your anger. //

Some people are mentally scarred for life by the sort of doom-laden preaching you spout. That makes me angry because you have no business doing that to anyone. What's not to understand?
Question Author
//I didn't write them!//
You havn't even read them!

//Why get angry?//
I just told you @ 17:31, Im not angry.
Frustrated at times at your failure to respond to a question, or your skirting around a question, or, as often happens, you posting another question thereby avoiding the question put to you.
But angry? No.
Where religious people are concerned, I find it hard to angry because I was once religious. You dont have my anger, you have my sympathy.

And what is this separation from God carp?
Say it for for what it is... eternal torment in a lake of fire.
Tortured forever in a burning lake of fire.
And you talk about morals? No court on Earth would condemn someone to such an atrociety except fundies like yourself.
So what do you want me to say to placate you?

Why don't you start at the beginning and determine whether or not God exists?

I did and I believe so.
The scriptures fit in with that.
You might be better reading Lord Of The Rings, less upset.

Its people like YOU Theland that turn me away from christianity,
Its Jesus that turns you away from Christianity.
You are your own god, your autonomous morality and refusal to acknowledge a higher power than yourself.
As far as you are concerned, you are the pinnacle of humanity.
Sad really.
“Tit” might be a bit above the belt, but “pal”? I’ve been calling people ‘pal’ for many decades, with no offence given or taken, pal.
