I see the Pope has reaffirmed the secrecy of the Confessional for paedophiles. You can just imagine how it goes :--

Confessor: Oh Father I have sinned, I am a kiddy fiddler

Priest: You're safe with us. Next time ring this number, we have the largest and most secret paedophile ring in the world. Absolute secrecy is guaranteed by the Pontiff himself.

[Ref: A document from the Vatican's Apostolic Penitentiary said no law could force clergy to violate the seal of secrecy because this duty comes directly from God. ]

Jesus was not into secrecy Himsellf. But the RC seem to know better.
When referring to a document and using your own terms, always best to add a link.

Confessional secrecy has divided people's opinions for centuries and no doubt always will.

Canary, //Priest: You're safe with us. Next time ring this number, we have the largest and most secret paedophile ring in the world. Absolute secrecy is guaranteed by the Pontiff himself. //

Why did you need to invent that? I've no time for the Catholic church, but that is disgusting.
Perfectly timed too Naomi, just as the Editor closes the door behind her for the day.

Not for the first time.
Wheras the structure and attitudes of the Catholic church are not designed to encourage abuse of all kinds - that structure and obsessive secrecys does facilitate the worst in people.

Priests are arrested adolescents. They live an utterly unatural life unable to enjoy the character-building comfort of a family life, and doomed instead to the sort of perverse adoration that can turn the head of the most level individuals.

This is a breeding ground for the protection and pretence of normality that breeds abuse of all kinds, the people like the Bishop Of Birmingham have deliberatly used their power to hide and prolong the activities of abusing priests.

It is never going to change while those in power perpetuate the secrecy and egotism that drives it - and in order to change anything, you have to prove that you approve of things the way they are - which is why the Bishop is not disgraced and defrocked as he should be - but has been promoted to Cardinal status.

The entire problem is encapsulated right there.
Mamya - Perfectly timed too Naomi, just as the Editor closes the door behind her for the day.

Not for the first time.

That infers that the Editor would remove that post - which is unlikely.

Posts are removed for contravening Site Rules, not for expressing views that others may not agree with - that would be to deny the concept of free speech.
Mamyalynne, I don't understand why anyone needs to do that sort of thing. If they think it's clever they're deluded.
Unless the other party admits what was said, how would the authorities know a priest was withholding information or no?
Naomi: you really do risk turning into a parody of a cantankerous old person; not everything disagreeable to you warrants an outburst on here.

Oh Andy, and you a professional wordsmith...

That infers that the Editor would remove that post - which is unlikely.

No. That IMPLIES etc... YOU infer...

Shame!

bainbrig, no bursting out from me. You, on the other hand ....
BB both Andy and Naomi have already been caught out on that recently...once more and they will have to sit on the naughty seat

You would do well to recognize that statement yourself BB.
Woofgang, not me. Addressing andy-hughes' post I simply used his terminology, that's all. Unlike some, I've never been one to get my kicks from correcting other people's use of the English language.
You missed my point Andy but never mind.
Hmm. But naomi isn’t a professional writer, is she. Is she? Lummy.
Naomi, wriggling, writes: “I've never been one to get my kicks from correcting other people's use of the English language.”

Nor me, pal... except when the perpetrator is a professional writer and should know his implies from his infers.

And if Sqad confused his tongue with his tonsils, or Peter Pedant his cataract with his cornea, I’d be similarly critical.

I don’t know if you still work to earn your living, or what you do or did, naomi24, so can’t comment on your own confusion over what is implied or inferred. If yours was a simple error, then it is understandable, and no criticism is justified.

BB
Religion is a tiresome burden on the morels of society. It's caused more war and hate than it has ever done good.

I wonder if religions will still exist in 100-200 years.
morals, even.
//I wonder if religions will still exist in 100-200 years.//

Without a doubt. People will always have certain beliefs although some believe more than others....
