Does anyone here feel sad that the Catholic church is still in thrall to superstition? Apparently Cardinal Newman is close to beatification following an alleged miracle that he performed. He may even be sainted if he can pull off another one.

this featured prominently on midlands today this week - his second miracle has now been "confirmed".

"sainted" ......its called canonisation..... and no I don't feel anything at all.
All religion is in the thrall of superstition.
It's just handing out gongs to favoured past members. Nothing tio get het up about. (Although I think one ought to clarify what is happening to kids so they don't go around with the illusion that sainthood is anything more than recognition by those heading up the religion.)

It puzzles me that two miracles equals a sainthood. What does CN do all day? How does he choose which two lucky people he should save? Why not some kind of reverse award for God and the rest for letting all the others suffer and die? How can people believe all this stuff?
He doesn't do a lot now, he died in 1890.

It doesn't sadden me as such, it's something I have always known.

Agreeing it's right or not is a personal thing I imagine, like all else.
What do they do all day??!!

Listen Atheist, those predatory monsters on the verge of exposure don't re-assign themselves you know, that takes time and effort to find just the right backwater for it all to start again, quietly.
Atheist //. What does CN do all day? //
Not a lot, he died in 1807.
Oops, wrong Newton. Mamyalynne is correct.

When I said 'What does he do all day?' I meant in heaven!
Religion is superstition.

And, Douglas, I'm afraid I didn't understand a word.

So you believe that there is a heaven!
If anyone can answer what he does all day in Heaven, I shall be astonished.
He looks down beneficently.
Question Author
I don't believe in heaven. I was, I suppose, addressing my remark to those who do. Not that there seems to be any here today.
Question Author
OG, I bet he's seen a lot of interesting things. And he can't be very beneficent if he only helps out about one a century.
