You never give up, do you?

No Jack. I love you too much.
Reason rather than revelation, Theland.

So reason answers all of your questions then? Fine.
Reason: Why? How? What if?

No, reason doesn't give the answers. It does tell me the stupid ones to avoid.

'Tis better to acknowledge the answer remains to be found than to assume you have the answer and relinquish the quest.
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight,
Where ignorant armies clash by night.

Mobs. The quest? Like barking up the wrong tree? What is your tree? On what do you base your answers to the big questions? Or do you content yourself with simply going with the flow, or repeating the same questions over and over to the grave?
It isn't based on anything other than my own thoughts and feelings. I mull over alternatives and come to conclusions. I don't need someone else's conclusions upon which to base my own.
Plato may have needed Socrates to set him thinking, and Aristotle may have needed both of them, but autodidacts say they can do it all on their own, starting with a clean slate as it were, or is that just a spot of hubris ? :0)
//The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.//

Attributed to one or two people - but the sentiment remains the same.

My Philosophy is that we should act towards others as we would wish them to act towards us. yes I know that is in the Bible , but my philosophy is based on the fact that we are human, not on a Deity or a book that tells or demands that we be that way. Humans have a sense of empathy and of what is good and what is bad we have the power of speech and of reason. None of this comes from God or from religion it comes from being Human. Humanism is the closest to my philosophy , however humanism is now in danger of becoming a religion . I understand there are Humanism ministers ,humanism churches and humanism services now.
My humanism is personal to me alone. You could quote the famous song and say 'I did it my way'
I was once fortunate enough to meet ex President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia his philosophy of 'Zambian Humanism' strongly influence my thinking.

I do have another I swear by. '***'.... attributed to me.
.// I was once fortunate enough to meet ex President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia his philosophy of 'Zambian Humanism'//

"In 1972 all political parties except UNIP were banned. At the same time, Kaunda oversaw the acquisition of majority stakes in key foreign-owned companies. The oil crisis of 1973 and a slump in export revenues put Zambia in a state of economic crisis."

an example to us all .... you arent due at the DoSS later on today are you ?

BUT - ex is correct - KK went when he was told to - and is still alive at age 93.
Oh dear. AB’s swear filter has given the impression that I’ve written something rude. I haven’t. I simply said in two words that when life presents us with insurmountable troubles we can’t change it so there's no point worrying about it.

It was NOT perfect but it was a major factor in helping Zambia make a peaceful transition from colonial rule to independence, something that has escaped most African and other states.
I lived there 1973 > 1976 when we still celebrated 'Humanism week' every year and KK was President.
I guess, like most other people's philosophies, it's based on how I was brought up.

Most people do seem able to stumble through life with the philosophy they inherited but for me the programming I acquired in childhood was not enough, it was rather a prescription for disaster at every turn.

Fortunately I was eventually able to formulate a philosophy that has enabled me to make better choices but it hasn't been easy to get here from there.

Learning how the universe works is essential but only one crucial part of understanding how to live in it as a rational being. Our continued success depends on our learning to become something much more than simply monkeys with guns.

So in 1930's Germany, would you be reporting your neighbour for being Jewish, that being the thing to do in loyalty to the state, or would some overriding compulsion cancel this out?
