Leaving aside the inaccuracy of these Polls, I think its incredible if any Christian doesn't believe in the resurrection. If they think it never happened, how on earth can they call themselves Christians ?

Isn't this a central plank of Christian belief ?

Shakes head in amazement !

OK so wodger write in your Diary today Mikey

Dear Diary - woke up today and realised I was protestant but not that the church was latitudinarian ? I am sure that will come later

The church that you proddies subscribe to is notoriously loose on theology - of which resurrection is one
Bishop Jenkins- you remember the 'atheist' Bishop of Durham

about his successor - a resident of Durham commented
"having a bishop who isnt an atheist would be a good start"

what the dear bishop was taling about was - - - - the resurrection and called it "a trick with a bag of bones"
novellas about finding the bones of Jesus were the vogue then

and being Easter = or the Pashal sseasson -
he was referring to the fact ( haha ! yes intended word) that no one would was not converted saw Jesus resurrected - only the elect did. And I think there was an entry - and Jesus appeared to X whilst he was reading the New York Times - and another - he appeared behind locked doors ....
indicating it was not physical
yeah yeah I know tha the credo says bodily....

easter sermon over

and Easter forgiveness - should we be forgiving the terrorist of Stockhom ? for his evil evil actions well I think that is a christian tenet too far huh ?
It's all way, way above your head mikey, don't worry about it.
Question Author
Peter....I have said this before, but its worth repeating.

I am sure you are making some kind of sense, if only I could work it out !
Question Author
Khandro....I am not worried at all, just puzzled how anybody could say that they are a Christian, and yet not believe the central fact about the religion !
// I am sure you are making some kind of sense, if only I could work it out !//

ah my mistake - this is AB
where v-e said that some of the reader have IQs are in three figures
( his words and not mine !)

well mikey
there was this guy...
and it was ever so long ago - years and years ago
even before your grandparents were born - that long ago !

and some people said he was very holy
and some people didnt !
and they killed him sudduv like stockholm but different

Mikey : oh is stockholm near Palestine ? or the Hooooooly Land ?

PP yes it is actually
erm I think we are getting bogged down in detail

Mikey it seems ever so complicated - can I go out and play

PP : yeah good idea - [shakes head in amazement]
sorry recycled phrase there .....
"Il faut cultiver son jardin" (One must cultivate one's own garden)

Voltaire :0)
Gethsemane?
Il faut n'etre pas si pompeux, Khandro...
Khanders
you are on a loser
Mikey cant understand Christian beliefs because he doesnt understand the meaning of - church - prostestant - bishop- resurrection- theology

it means you cant have a rational discussion with a lack of basis such as that

and as for - if faut cultiver ....
khandro - you naughty naughty boy

the average ABer luvz languages and cant abide them being used on AB ( yeah the average ABer - no names no names - I might be accused of stalking ( again)) - (hey look at that - resurrection reference to talking in tongues!)

anyway I thought il faut cultiver... ( dammit French again! - ooer mrs!) was about using prastitutes

[ hey cool easter reference to Maria Magdalena. - Mikey ignore that!]

and anyway Votaire was a noted atheist innit
( hmm can I link Voltaire with Pontius Pilate or the gadarene swine? Mikey quiet - these are references to a book you have never heard of)

PP I believe that a version of that joke was in Yes Prime Minister

mikey I think you may be confusing Christianity with the Church of England. Organised religions do have a list of things that people must believe in/comply with in order to be able to call themselves members...but outside of that you can call yourself a christian and believe what you like.....a bit like being a conservative or a member of the Conservative Party. Other political affiliations are available.
Question Author
Woofy....as I understand, all Christian denominations have the resurrection at the very core of belief system. I was brought up as a Catholic and it was certainly central to what we were taught.

I can't think of any "Christian" sect or faction that doesn't have it as a core belief.
No Jim360 I think if Mikey has said
this is about Jesus and he cant understand any statement with jesus in it

hey did you pick up that cool ref to Loebs theorem Jim?

then you can be as pompous or religious as the fancy takes you as it is all the same to M - "he wont understand" as the only ouput

oh mikey I dont think unitarians believe in th resurrection and they are Christian no doubt
mikey....that was the point of my last post. Denominations are the organised aspect of religion....I find it interesting that you also call them sects and factions :) I think of them as table d’hote.
Outside of organised christian religion there are a plethora of people and groups whose approach to religion is more a la carte. Mostly their attitude is not that an actually bodily resurrection did not happen but that it doesn’t matter whether or not it happened.
You should watch The Bishop’s Gambit. I believe its on youtube.
I an understand someone not believing old testament stories (6 days to make the world, Adam and Eve, Noah's ark etc).
However like Mikey, I think this sounds extraordinary.

Personally I don't believe any of it.
oh God ! ( pun intended)
can I quote some Latin ? pleeeeeeeez ! ( makes childhood sound like going to the lavatory)

credo quia incredibilis - Tertullian - I believe it coz it is unbelievable
It might even have been about the resurrection ( and not the whole shebang) - hey cool ref to resurrection where the OP doesnt seem to understand any of the basic terms of theology including resurrection

oh and sozza to those Abers who believe ( ha pun intended!) that it is inappropriate to use foreign languages in the hallowed groves of AB
If a Christian, be it a Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther or indeed the Archbishop of Canterbury wishes to debate the finer points of the religion with another Christian, that's well and good, but when a person from outside that religion poses questions such as the OP which are not seeking either clarification or enlightenment, but purely to pour scorn and ridicule, then I reach for my gun.

Khandro why?
PP if you're wrong in saying that Unitarians are Christian. From unitarian.org.uk,
"...many Unitarians are Christians. And we also recognise as such all who share the same spirit, whatever their position on the Christian theological spectrum."
Why shouldn't they call themselves Christians if they generally go along with the beliefs and way to live ? You seem to be a Labour party supporter (may be a member for all I know) but do you agree with everything they support ? If not should you still be considered a supporter ?
Question Author
Khandro....got out the wrong side of the bed this morning perhaps ?

I asked a very simple question, and have no intention of ridiculing anybody. I would still like somebody who says that they are a Christian, and yet don't think the resurrection happened, to explain their reasoning.

They don't have to, of course !
