If There Is A God Why Did He Wait For Thousands Or Millions Of Years To Give His Prophets Their Messages/books To Spread Their Religions?

I'm talking about mainly the "Big 3" Islam. Christianity and Judaism but you can include any other religions you know about.

Why did god allow man to live thousands or millions of years without religion and in "In sin" and then chose his time deep into the future and near the end of the world according to Christianity and Islam (Does anyone know whether Judaism is too?)

It's almost like your teacher suddenly thrusting a years work of studies at you in the final 2 hours of class and telling you that there's an exam in one hour and if you fail it you fail all of your exams and will be burnt and thrown into an eternal fire filled with suffering for eternity.

Scary stuff!

What's your take on how religion was "delivered" to mankind?

Is Judaism really in the big 3? I'd guess there are lots more Hindus, for example, than Jews.
God delivered his message to us when he judged us ready to receive it.

But sandyroe the world is now awash with violence with war with drug/alcohol intake and with pregnant teens and sex everywhere and all the others I can't think of at this moment in time. The "10 Commandments" if they exist have been desecrated and ignored on a global scale so "sin" is at an all time high so this is possibly the worst time in mankind statistically for sheer number that could be "Going to hell" if it exists is it not?

Sorry for all the big questions as my mind goes into turbo drive before I sleep hence the long battle with insomnia and sleeping pills.

Going to try and crash now though so goodnight and will have to pick this up tomorrow.
The world, well the Christian world, would be a far better place if the 10 Commandments were followed by more people. But, as you rightly say, the world is awash with sin and the sinners scoff at the stone documents that offer a sure guide to peace in this life and the chance of better in the one to come.

It appears so sandyroe but would be a boring place but I suppose if that's all we knew we'd all be happy. Maybe "God" or the prophets were visionaries and could see that the fornication the excessive alcohol consumption and violence were going to spiral out of control and were men of peace and didn't want this little knowing that religion would be the cause of much violence and hatred or would that be lack of religion as the wars etc.. seem to be carried out by those who DON'T follow the books if I'm correct?
sandyRoe "... Is Judaism really in the big 3?... God delivered his message to us when he judged us ready to receive it..."

I find your answer strangely Orwellian. You appear to be holding contradictory opinions and yet seem to believe that they are equally valid at the same time. Allow me to elaborate but before I do, I must say that as you well know, the term "big 3" when referring to religion refers to the main three Abrahamic religions. Those being Judaism, Christianity and Islam. All three have essentially the same stories, characters and events. Your comment about Hinduism is simply pedantry.

Back to the main point. Speaking chronologically, I think it's fair to say that Islam is a late-comer to the Abrahamic religious party; it being thrust upon the world a mere 1400 years ago by way of the sword. Christianity was reversely next being 'revealed' approximately 2000 years ago. Then comes Judaism, 'revealed' to the world 3500 years ago (circa 1500 BC).

Given the above and your comment that, "... God delivered his message to us when he judged us ready to receive it...", to which 'message' are you referring? You know as well as I do that Christianity is basically a revision of Judaism with Jesus cast in the central role of 'god's 'prophet. The Bible is a re-telling of the Torah just as Islam is a re-telling of both the Bible and the Torah.

My point being that you appear to believe that 'god' revealed 'his' *correct* message 2000 years ago and not 3500 years ago as the Jews believe. By your comment you must think that god misjudged mankind 3500 years and again 1400 years ago and only got it right 2000 years ago with the 'Jesus' tale.

How convenient for you that the 'correct' version of 'god's truth' also happens to be the one you believe more than the others. What are the odds of that happening? ;-)

Which 'Ten Commandments' are you referring to? There's at least three different versions in the Bible and none of them are the same.

We have as much solid foundation as these Abrahamic survivals.
sandyroe //the world is awash with sin //

The world is awash with what the followers of your religion call sin.

The big one would be people living their lives together and having children without being married. Even many of those that have married didn't have a "proper" marriage in a church.

Take away that bigoted arbitrary definition and most of the sin goes away.

In fact the worst of objectively bad stuff on the planet is actually being done by the religious in the name of their various gods.

//and the sinners scoff at the stone documents //

What stone documents? Those stone tablets should have easily made it through to today but Moses, the only person who ever saw them, destroyed them. Fat lot of respect he had for God's word.

Those stone tablets are just an early version of the same stupid story Joseph Smith made up about the golden plaques.

//that offer a sure guide to peace in this life and the chance of better in the one to come//

There can be no peace on this planet while millions describe their faiths as "the only way".
God must be getting seriously bored with all this gloop

I thought about this a while back and came to the conclusion that the only solution is that the Earth is young if you want the Abrahamic religions to be consistent. Since it's not young then there is a contradiction and on that alone I think there is a case for rejecting those religions. Unless of course God set up the universe to look old when it's not. But that's not really a counter argument since it's clearly not testable.

Quickly you discover that logical arguments about the nature of God are difficult if not impossible...
Logic isn't really the touchstone to assess faith
Sandyroe - "Logic isn't really the touchstone to assess faith"

Ergo, religion is, by any logical definition, irrational. It's nice when a true believer admits that his or her belief is based on nothing more that imaginary longings. Good luck with the whole 'wishful thinking' malarkey.
Well if you believe your Bible then the world was only created 6000 years ago.

The Spaghetti Monster has only recently been 'discovered'.
Perhaps the pupils were not listening to teacher before then.

Even then, when men and women huddled in caves at night to escape the attentions of Tyrannosaurus Rex and his cousins, there was a yearning for faith. Cave art, standing stones and the like, testify to that.
