Among the significant events that Jesus said would mark “the time of the end" was that false prophets would arise (Matthew 24:11, 12) Jesus associated the increased lawlessness and the cooling off of love with the influence of false prophets—those who falsely claim to speak for God.

Yeah! An end of the world post. I thought we'd missed out this year. One year they will be right you know. Keep going.
Drivel idio....it just another violent episode on a continent where greed, lack of education and the gun rule.
So, There have been plenty of other 'false prophets' (nutters) why is this one any more significant?
No. No it isn't.

Jomiflo@You may be quite right. There have been so many false prophets over the years, why should this one be any different!

Zacs-Master@ there could be a day when events could prove to be the very end of this world as we know it!

Mikey4444@ I wouldn't say it was just another violent episode continent - it is the whole world. Everywhere there is violence - whether it by rule by force, fear or the gun. Even in educated lands the violence is rampant.
But there is definately going to be an end. If there is a beginning then there is an end. We have had a beginning and we are now running its course to the end.
idiosyncrasy, Jesus said that the end would come during the lifetime of some of his followers, but it didn’t. Perhaps he was also a false prophet.
Idi //Zacs-Master@ there could be a day when events could prove to be the very end of this world as we know it!//
Replace could with will. It's just not now.
Idio

All the analyses show the world has been getting less violent and troubled over the past 50 years

So your theory is based on a false premise

Naomi//Jesus said that the end would come during the lifetime of some of his followers//

Jesus spoke of an end for Jerusalem and its temple. This did occur in 70CE when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple.

But if you read carefully the Chapter 24 of Matthew, from verse 7 onwards, you can see that the sign consists of a number of different aspects which, when occuring within a period of time, shows it is referring to a future time. For example v 7 talks about Nation rising against Nation. History shows this to be the Great War or WWI in 1914 and since then there has been a war in almost every land on this earth. Then it goes on to talk about famines, diseases etc etc.
Yeah, but what about the everlasting sandals?
Question Author
Zacs-Master//Yeah, but what about the everlasting sandals? //
What?
idiosyncrasy, Instead of using it to make your chosen history fit – so simple after the event - I suggest you read it a little more carefully. Nation has always risen against nation and disease and famine have always existed. Jesus said “There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom” – and since he also said that his kingdom is not of this world, he wasn’t talking about Jerusalem. It’s nonsense.
Sorry, I was getting my Zealots confused.
Idio

Try this for starters; 'The Better Angels of our Nature' by Stephen Pinker

It's a scientific analysis unlike your anecdotal evidence

Most of these prophets come from within the christianity itself.

Zeuhl@ Load of rubbish. Look at the news reports day after day. All you see and hear is violence, shootings, wars, murders, etc.etc. Don't close your eyes and ears to the facts.

Naomi@ I think you need to read and study. Yes, there have been wars and rumours of wars. History acknowledges that fact. But Jesus said that this time it was a war with a difference, why?

The start of World War One shocked the world. Since that time it has been a age of unprecedented warfare. The weapons are more deadly, even unseen and whereas previously wars usually only involved the armies of the opposing factions, now wars involve innocent bystanders. Young children and civilians.

After WWI it was expected that there would be peace hence the League of Nations. But what did it achieve? Nothing. It was disbanded and then there was WWII. We have the United Nations. But does it and can it prevent war? No. It tries, but what generally happens? Those who try to bring peace end up being killed.

The exact number of deaths of WWI cannot be precisely determined but it has been estimated to be in excess of 8,000,000 and that it not including those civilians that were killed.

When we look at WWII. The weaponry was far more deadly and culminated in the Atomic Bomb over Japan. Again exact figures cannot be given but estimates say between 35 and 60 million.

Since 1945 there has been recorded at least 500 armed conflicts in at least 151 locations.
idiosyncrasy, //Jesus said that this time it was a war with a difference//

Could you elaborate please? What are you talking about?
Idio

Sorry you consider an objective analysis of facts 'rubbish' and for some bizarre reason have more confidence in your own subjective responses to what the news channels feed you.

Especially as by your own admission wars in the last century were much more devastating than any recent conflicts which are relatively limited in scale and casualties.

The figures also demonstrate that violent crime is reducing in the developed world.

Still I'm sure you will try to not let the facts get in the way of your preconceived notions.
