My mother accused me once of bringing my children up "without a moral compass" because I stopped going to church. Morals are not in and of themselves the result of religion. Although most religions have some sort of moral code there are some which do not (The worship of Kali comes to mind!) I do agree that the breakdown of moral structure is worrying but not necessarily a vortex of atheism and self-destruction.

Somehow I don't think you meant to present your 'answer' in quite such a way. However, if you insist on beginning the majority of your copy and paste 'answers' with curt, meaningless adjectives then I suppose it was only a matter of time before you made a pig's ear of it.

I find it amazing that people such as Goodlife seem to think that the world is going to hell in a handcart because of atheism and secularism. It's such a warped notion that it beggars belief.

Secularism and atheism are the reason we have free societies in the world today. Free societies have not come about because of religion. They have occurred despite religion. The separation of church and state is the foundation for just about every functioning democracy today. The reason we no longer execute homosexuals in this country and others is not because of religion. The reason women have equal rights to men is not because of religion. The reason we have freedom of speech and the right to practice or not practice the religion of our choice is not because of religion.

Functioning, free democracies where everyone is equal and where 'hate' crimes are illegal exist specifically because of secularism and atheism.

The crying shame is that some religious people think that secularism is evil and immoral precisely because it gives equal rights to homosexuals, women and atheists.
