I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

That is a term I have never heard or used.
maybe because is less coarse than saying "thank f***"

cant say Ive ever said either though.
you've typed one!
The only times I have heard this expression being used the speaker was being ironic and humourous.

Which stupidity are you referring to?

Omitting question marks?
Or asking silly questions?
Its irony ... tongue in cheek taking the p...whatever you like to call it... I think you missed the point goodlife
@Goodlife - Nice to see that you can read something apart from the bible - it would be nice to attribute your quote though, dont you think?

And to be perfectly honest, the phrase " I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it" (Edith Sitwell), Seems to fit those of us who have to put up with the nonsense spewed out by you and your fellow travellers, with your elastic time, creationist mythology, and slavish adherence to some of the more frothing at the mouth contributors to your little book of verse, such as Leviticus.......
Perhaps someone said this to you goodlife

Why do some say,Thank god I'm an atheist... because you obsessively quote from the bible.
Is there ever a need to be offensive or does it just make the writer feel better?
Why do some say "Thank god I'm an atheist" ?

It is, as rowan says, an example of "irony".
is it the same as saying "thank f**k I'm celibate"?
^who is being offensive?
Not really, pa_ul.

It would be like saying "Thank f**k I never use bad language".
AOG is a racist Honky
//I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it. //

Me too. Do you have anything worth saying to say, Goodlife?
Careful Zeuhl, Honky is used as a derogatory word to a white person, it is not ironic.
irony, it comes in handy sometimes.
Using it whilst accusing someone of racism is ironic = i was adding it to the list of examples similar to 'thank god i'm an atheist' or 'thank f**k i don't swear'.

Do try and keep up Brenden :-)
No similarity at all Zeuhl, and no irony.
Accusing someone of being racist and calling them by a racially based <derogatory> word.

Hello. It's not that difficult Brenden.
zeuhl, in this i agree with Brenden, no need to be abusive
