Why do muslims feel compelled to pray in the street when they do not have access to a mosque (this practice has just been banned in France)? Why don't they pray in a garden or park where they will not be a public nuisance.

Is it doing anyone else any harm?
so as to give Jonny Wilkinson kicking practice for the World Cup when they go prone - he needs it if last weekend was anything to go by.
Why are they being a nuisance?

Never seen it happen myself...
yes.. where does this happen, and how inconvenient is it?
I have only seen it as an overspill from the mosque I don't know why they do this as the street will be generally an unclean place - totally at odds with muslim prayer guidelines
I live in a town with its fair share of muslims, and I've yet to see this happen?
true tali......

Ummm..perhaps if you had seen it you would understand why it is a nuisance.
where does this happen?
A bunch of praying Jews once delayed my flight to Israel. We missed two slots because of it. I was praying for them to finish and let us get going!
Unlikely....I'm not easily bothered.
Re Bobbi's thread on someone trying to get out of the plane on the Majorca-Newcastle flight, this would definitely get me off the flight/going for the door.

Why in public is a good question.
that's Naomi by the way, sitting a few rows back....
I thought Muslims were supposed to pray at particular times of day, not just when it's convenient.

I quite admire people with faith.. I have none :o)
so you mean in Rome and France?
Yes, that's about right DT - and Jomifl. Been there, there - and there - but can't say 'and done it'! Blimey, with all that caterwauling it's no surprise their god doesn't listen! Headache central!

Sara.. a street is a street wherever it is. The videos were examples of praying in the street for those who thought it was just the odd muslim throwing a prayer mat on the ground.
I've just never seen it happen
