How often would you say you're true to yourself or even know what your true self is? I'm different things and people all the time really depending on who I'm with-I mean,we're not the same with our parents as we are with friends are we? I catch myself all the time being certain ways that I don't particularly like or acting in a certain way. I really envy people who are always just "themselves" and don't feel the need to impress or fit in. It's usually unconsciously I do this. What about you?

I'm always having out of body experiences and looking down on myself.
Lol @ lajohn! Very swift!

Agree with legend. Don't need to impress - and I'M not easily impressed, either.
I try but I can't be anybody else. Don't envy it mydogs, it can be a pain in the ****! Some people like who I am, if they don't, I'm not going to change for them. I just can't do it. I'm honest to the point of being blunt on occasions - people ask for your opinion but seldom want to hear the truth, I'm afraid.
lajohn if you were yourself you would be elsewhere too.

Be true

Its not difficult

you might enjoy it
I hate phonieness and artificiality.....dishonesty just complicates life. Being different things to or with different people is not the same, because we can't help but interact in different ways. But our core values, and personality must always shine thru.....that is how we keep our integrity and stay true to ourselves.
theree rae far tooo many asss kissers on here

Very serious there...: )
True, though.
Is this a night of psychology?
Probably just a fleeting moment,Icey... ;-)
My answer was to you pasta, btw!!!! Let's hope so, anyway. Can't be doing with too much analysis of the human personality tta this time of night - morning!
mmmm......and a little bit goes a long way here!
I know exactly what you mean - and it's not about being a phoney or anything else. You are not deliberately setting out to pretend to be someone you are not, but different people bring out different facets of your personality - and anyone who says they are always themselves are maybe looking at things the wrong way, would they behave with their grandparents the way they behave with their friends on a night out for instance? or vice versa? Some people you mind your p's and q's with and others you are more relaxed with and I think deep down everyone is the same to a certain extent, we just think it's only us and everyone else is more together and themselves when they are probably envying us for the same thing!
Hmm - well that was a bit to digest, karen - but I see your point. I agree - depending on the type of company we're in, I think we all act accordingly, although I'm really no different with my friends than I am at home really - even if that's frowned upon sometimes!!! Lol.
I try to be true to myself, but i does have its down sides. I speak my mind, I have an inability to keep my mouth shut and always say whats in my head which doesnt earn you too many friends lol
I don't think there's any harm in going out of your way to fit in with others. As humans, we are naturally social creatures who seek to form bonds with others. As such, yes sometimes I'll say or do things I don't really feel in order to go along with the group. But if I REALLY disagree with what's being said, I'll make my point (politely and calmly) and stick to it, and if I REALLY don't want to do something, I'll make my excuses and leave quietly rather than make a scene.

BTW, it is possible to be true to yourself and others without upsetting people. Too many people use the cloak of "being myself" or "speaking my mind" as an excuse to be rude or offensive (Alansugaritis, I think it's called). With a little bit of thought, it's not that difficult to find a way to get across the message of what you really think without making people feel stupid or looked down upon.

Incongurent or Congurent that is the question.
I think we are all crazy pretending to be normal.
I have multile personallities. Which one do you want?

When you say that you envy those who are always themselves, how do you know that they are being themselves and not just pandering to social etiquette and expectations?
