From what I can tell it appears to be Reebok Classic trainers, tracksuit bottoms, tracksuit top, baseball cap, Elizabeth Duke 'Gold' jewellery, staffordshire bull terriers, bruises, a sneer, a giro and a total lack of respect for decent people.
England does not have a national dress in the same way as Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Similarly, the women of Scotland and Ireland don't have a unique national dress.

National identity by dress code could possibly be the stereotypical suit and bowler hat, or dressing as a beefeater or a pearly king/queen! Formerly dressing in a suit (top hat and tails) was the reserve of the middle class whilst peasants and the like had shawls or an embroidered smock.

So what flip-flop has said has an element of truth, but that is more a class/social strata destinction within a culture than a national identity. Today you could not distinguish any particular nationality of someone dressed in that get up, or in a suit.

Was Tommy Cooper Turkish?
