Hi im an aussie mum who is just trying to find out what most mums do on mothers day, My husband thinks mothers day is more about your own mum and celebrating with other mums. His mum each year organises a lunch or something, I find I dont have my say as shes my mother in law I have to fit in with her,My mother I see when she feels like it she sometimes hybernates We have in the past organised things with her but she cancels last minute, So we do it casually, Im feling like Ive got nothing to celebrate as its all about my husbands mum and his nana am I being selfish? Im a mother of 2 little boys 3and 4 my husband seems to think its all about me and that this is mothers day celebrating with his relatives can I get some feed back please . and dont all mums have different ways on how they like to celebrate mothers day,Im not stopping him from seeing his mum but it takes up the whole day ,and drags on abit

Hi mum to be- I can see where your husband is coming from because my dad feels the same- the difference is that we are all grown up so we can do nice things for our mum now but its difficult when your kids are only young. Mums are so important and you should be rewarded every day- what about if you and your husband and kids went for brunch or something so you get to spend a bit of time with your own family earlier on? Happy mothers day from me by the way ! xx
My God if I suggested that we spend the day with my Mother my wife would go into orbit. Our kids and I usually get her breakfast in bed and the usual flowers and chocs and then we all go out to dinner somewhwre and maybe take the kids to a theme park or somewhare fun for all of us. I do call my mother ( she lives in Ireland) and we have had her over, but relations are strained between she and my wife for other reasons, so that's always fairly tense, and the kids love making cards and planning surprises. Tell him mother's day is about you and your family as well as his mum and that his kids are missing out terribly on doing special things for you.Happy Mother's Day as well XXX

Hi I have been a mum for 18 years now and 5 children later, I feel that it is your day for your children to treat you, I have had breakfast in bed for many years, though now they have got older at least I get a long lie, used to be cold tea and toast at 6.00 in the morning. My best one was when they all made me a 'cake' out of cooking chocolate, food colouring, mashmallows and anything else they could find, they had a ball making it and I had a great time sharing it, took photos of it. We go to my mums for a cup of tea and a cake and then to mother-in-laws for the same. But most of the day is spent with my own family. Lots of people do different things. Its what works for you. Try talking to your husband and suggest you go out for meal with the children and then pop in and see his mum.

good luck mother-in-laws are never easy to deal with.
