Data (Use And Access) Bill......
couldn't really put this in News, because it isn't - at least not yet. This bill provides the legislative framework for digital verification services (DVS), which will allow people to prove their identity and facts about themselves by using apps and online services, backed by a government “trustmark”.
The bill provides for people to "self identify" by sex or gender identity, notwithstanding the supreme court's recent judgment concerning the primacy of biological sex on official documentation. Opponents of the bill claim this "sex or gender" proviso will allow people to have officially endorsed digital identities that allow them to prove that they are the opposite sex.
No link to MSM because there aren't any, but plenty of information online slanted in the direction of the writer's own beliefs.(just google the name of the bill, you should be able to find sites that support both sides - rather robustly in some cases).
Could this be the government's way of circumventing the supreme court's judgment, as opponents claim? or is the "sex or gender" proviso just there to ensure the privacy of individuals and ensure they don't get outed against their will, as supporters of the bill claim?
