People are naive because they erroneously assume the faithful possess a mindset similar to their own.  In short they believe what it suits them to believe and ignore the rest.

It beats me, beancrisp.  Probably because 'Islam' means peace (or so they tell us).  PP can probably give us translation, chapter and surah.

Point is that 'Islam' means peace when everyone in the world worships Allah and is a follower of Islam. It doesn't refer to followers of other religion - not even Christianity (Islam accepts Jesus as a prophet).  So, if you are not a Muslim = you are not a proper/real person and may be slaughtered with impunity (this is putting it very broadly) as one is not committing a sin.

People believe it because they were taught it and the community they live in believes it and they only know their community and are not aware, in this country, that they live in self-created ghettos.  I'll swear that most of the Pakistani kids I taught in Bradford thought that they were part of the majority of inhabitants.

Think it matters which country you are speaking about.  Radical Islam in many countries where it is a religion of peace in others.  No different from here - religious intolerence is rife in the UK.
