Face Masks In Supermarkets.

It appears that all the major supermarkets are asking/advising/guilt-trapping people into wearing masks after Monday. I for one will not be taking the slightest notice. If other shoppers give me a wide berth because I'm not wearing a mask all well and good. What about you?

The supermarket giants have said that they will retain the screens and limit the number of customers in store i.e. same as 2020 when until July there was no need to wear a b***** mask and cases went right down even though no-one was vaccinated then. So why is it suddenly a great idea with the majority at least single-jabbed and a huge % double-jabbed?
A jab isn't a magic bullet. You can still catch it.Maybe it won't be as severe when your jabbed ,maybe it won't.

I don't go to supermarkets but if I did I would wear a mask.A lot of people have underlying conditions which are not always apparent so it's common courtesy to do so to protect not only yourself but others as well.

I wont be wearing one. Like TTT if they dont want my business then fine I will go elsewhere. You can bet at least one will go with 'leaving it to the customer' to clean up all the business.
The vaccines do work. Yes you may catch it but it is highly unlikely to kill you. More chance of getting runover.
Masks dont do much if anything at all, especially those dragged in and out of pockets/handbags and are the same paper one since last March. Probably actually worse as hands have been all over the it and then touch items.

I will definitely wear one in Supermarkets and indoor places. Won't be much different for me as I have worn masks on and off for 15 years. If I had known what could happen all those years ago then I would have worn a mask when I looked after my OH's pigeons when he went into hospital. But I didn't know and contracted a lung disease from the birds. I have had an allergy to pigeons ever since. Now if I go near the birds I wear a mask ,not to protect them but to look after my own lungs. It is foolhardy and stupid to throw caution to the winds .We do not know enough about this virus and its transmission.
My Morrisons hasn't been bothering avout numbers in store cor ages now. I think the screens round the cashiers should have been put in place years ago given the number of people coughing or sneezing onto them. They also might help a little bit to protect them from the abuse they get on a daily basis.

A few weeks ago the Prime Minister announced that the virus was endemic and the population would have to live with it. He pre-announced the fact that on July 19th all social distancing and other restrictive measures would be banished and people would be allowed to make their own assessment of the risks they take and the measurers they choose to combat them. He did so in full knowledge of the likely increase in daily infections, hospitalisations, deaths and vaccinations. These figures are largely as forecast with no surprise significant increases.
Now we see that the banishment of those restrictions is not what it is cracked up to be. Major retailers have taken over the government’s task of telling people what they should do (albeit without the threat of criminal sanctions being available to them to use against transgressors). Mayor Kahn has included face covering requirements in TfL’s Conditions of Carriage meaning you can be thrown off a bus or train if you fail to comply. We also see the spectre of “Covid passports” being necessary to enter certain venues when such a measure was categorically ruled out just a few months ago.
This country is slipping into a permanent Covid tyranny. There is already talk of measures being re-introduced in the winter if there is a major ‘flu epidemic and it seems the country is being held to ransom because of the inability of the NHS to cope with illness and injury. There seems no significant opposition in Parliament to this state of affairs with MPs seemingly going along with whatever edicts spew out of No 10. I have news for people: the NHS is already overwhelmed; it just isn’t overwhelmed with Covid patients. But the rest of it (diagnosis and critical care for people with life-threatening diseases (other than Covid), surgical and non-surgical treatment for debilitating ailments such as knee and hip problems to name but a couple) are in complete disarray. There is simply no point in making a big song and dance about arguably useless requirements and no point in ordering millions of people to self-isolate when they are not ill. The country is slipping down the kharzi surely and very quickly as a result of weak and confused leadership and an acquiescent Parliament.

By announcing well in advance the restrictions being lifted on 19th July, he was making a perfect opportunity for one of his U turns. He will say he has judged the mood of the nation and decided not to lift the restriction regarding face masks. He has also said that each lifting of restrictions was irreversible so I'm guessing he'll do a U turn there as well.

No I don't. That's why I said "arguably". What I do know is that the risk of self-contamination by untrained and undisciplined people using "amateur" face coverings is high - very high in fact. That's my objection to the government mandating something which is arguably useful in one respect but far more likely to be harmful in another.
However, I've no need to worry now (not that I ever have) because from Monday they are no longer legally necessary. That means people can make their own risk assessments and act accordingly.
