At the moment most of these establishments operate a track and trace scheme, you give them your contact details in case there is someone infected . What's to stop anyone who is intent on causing trouble, phoning the pub claiming to have been tested positve? Are these claims checked and verified before the pub is forced to shut down?

Businesses are not obliged to close just because a customer has tested positive for Covid-19. Most probably don't.
ok, Pubs aren't asked to shut down because one customer is infected. As I understand it if someone phones a pub and says they have tested positive for Covid, the pub doesn't have to do anything. The OFFICIAL test and trace system may contact the pub to get information or they may ask the person who tested positive for the details of other people who were at the pub in the same group, along with details of work colleagues and so on. The pub itself doesn't operate any kind of system they just have to keep a record of individuals or of one from each group in case it is asked for by the OFFICIAL test and trace system.
