Whether you fall into the group classified as ‘at risk’, or are over 70 and advised to remain at home, or younger and fit but requested to abandon your social life, will you comply - and if not why not?

Me? I think we are duty bound.

Of course we will comply, as you rightly say Naomi we feel we are ALL duty bound to do so. Chillidoubt must feel like banging his head against the wall with some of the responses here. It’s not much to ask to put your social life on hold for a few months is it? Better that than catch this virus or continue the spread of it. I despair at times...

I'm out.
The government has given you advice to stay in.

The answer is no.

That said, Trump has made some terrible gaffes over this virus. He's gone back on many of them, but two things he continues to spout are that this is a Chinese virus, and he is a wartime president.

Just where does he want to take this?
to a second term silly !

oops am I allowed to call some one metaphorically 'silly'? sozza, not really silly but it has super sibilant assonance
this is one of the more po-faced threads

(PP puts po on his head)
are we on compliance or free speech ?

I DO think that ads like - drink bleach to clear corona
should be taken down....

He's not the only leader who suggests we are at war:

"The answer is no"

I think it's actually a conspiracy by China to make people think it's a conspiracy by the USA to make people think ...

And so on
At least while are trawling and publishing this bilge they're not out spreading the virus
Maybe that explains the low numbers in Russia ...
> He's not the only leader who suggests we are at war

No, but he's the only leader who suggests we are at war and who calls it the Chinese virus.
I can't see any difference between calling this a Chinese virus and say referring to Spanish Flu, except perhaps we will need to indicate which Chinese virus we are referring to. They need a wake-up call and if name calling helps that's fine by me.
Nick, see my post at 1457.
12.26 APG, "Intelligent" I sort of half thought you were until I read some of your replies .nothing applies to you , only to everyone else , god what a snowflake you THINK you are.
Reading NJ’s post at 14.39 made me long for the return of jostling in the supermarket. Here in Spain we are a bit ahead of you with the virus and believe me nobody jostles anybody – in fact you won’t find anyone coming within a two-metre radius of you.

You're entitled to ignore anything you like, spicerack, but racism isn't welcome here.

The Virus isn't a "Chinese" Virus, and calling it so is ignorant, wrong, and deliberately inflammatory. You can take that elsewhere.

There wasn't a problem with calling it the Wuhan virus. Everyone appeared to be at ease with that. It only became a problem when Trump called it the China virus.
Yep, Rory.
Someone posted a video of all these Dems, CNN announcers et al calling Trump a racist for saying it. Then showed them all calling it exactly the same thing over the previous weeks.
They're pathetic. And anyone who takes their cue from them knows nothing.
When the disease was largely confined to Wuhan it made sense in the shorthand. It no longer does. Indeed, part of the reason the official name was introduced is precisely to avoid this situation. It's been called Covid-19/Sars-Cov-2 because that's a neutral, informative, and completely accurate name.
lol
A combination of milk (1%); eggs (grade A); and flour (protein content of 10-12%) is still known as Yorkshire pudding...Get over yerself.
^ none of which are available on supermarket shelves ...
