Is it professional to attend such protests?

The one in question is a peaceful, silent protest- but obviously controversial.

Can/should this affect someones profession?

If a large number of people attend, you will not know what is happening some distance away. You risk being caught in a crowd you would not wish to be associated with. Watching any confrontation between demonstrators and police, it is usually clear who the agitators are from a dispassionate distance. The police, however, do not have that luxury and can overreact in the heat of the moment, under a hail of bottles and bricks.

If you are genuinely concerned about your professional standing, better to find another way to protest.

Thanks for the food for thought everyone xxx
Tinks, my wife was a nurse. She came very close to losing her job when we protested against the unfair poll tax. My advice, keep your head down, and your mouth shut. Believe me you would not like the dole queue.
I don't do protests of any kind (except in a football stadia) but never knew Tinks you were a Nurse... I've never met a nurse that I didn't like thinking of the past, always lovely.
