Nusrat Jahan Rafi was doused with kerosene and set on fire at her school in Bangladesh. Less than two weeks earlier, she had filed a sexual harassment complaint against her headmaster.

Such a sad, sad tale, Naomi. Maybe, just maybe, this young girl's death and the resulting protests will lead to a change in the way sexual harassment is handled in this backward nation.
Tragic case.
I think the killers must take some of the blame too and I hope they are dealt with and not too many fingers are pointed at #MeToo
#MeToo definetely have a real challenge in cultures like this. I'm not expecting overnight changes

^definitely.
Crossed posts with Ken there
Sick, perverted animals protected by sickos-in-chief and all the time guided by a fairy story from centuries gone.

Imagine if such people had weapons of mass destruction to hand when something or someone crossed their twisted path.
Bad as things get here, other cultures seem beyond belief. As a child one grew up assuming we had left behind the obvious errors of the past and were now just polishing up the details. Then you get to be an adult and realise a lot of the world is no better than medieval status, and one is simply not experiencing it for oneself. Roll on the next millennium, maybe things will be sorted by then, if, as a species, we're still around.
Imagine if they had light sabres and a Death Star
//I think the killers must take some of the blame too\\
Damn right they should. I thought that went without saying.
What a brave girl she was. How many more before they drag themselves into the light.
if someone set my daughter on fire i'd make the last moments of their life as brutal and painful as possible and nothing would be able to stop me.

Why her family have not rallied round the murderer i do not know.
Her family have said they will make sure everyone involved will be held to account, and rightly so, poor girl.
They should be held with a knife to their throats.

Good luck with punishment.

//"When a woman tries to get justice for sexual harassment, she has to face a lot of harassment again. The case lingers for years, there is shaming in society, a lack of willingness from police to properly investigate the allegations," said Salma Ali, a human rights lawyer and former director of the Women Lawyers' Association.

"It leads the victim to give up on seeking justice. Ultimately the criminals don't get punished and they do the same crime again. Others don't fear to do the same because of such examples."//
News of Nusrat's health dominated Bangladeshi media. On 10 April, she died. Thousands of people turned out for her funeral in Feni.

not exactly ignored by her own community - but what the hell, this Ab so anything could be true

Where is #MeToo when they're needed?
are they needed?
or in Grand AB tradition - where was MeToo when grenfell burnt down - hm yes, tell me that....
look we brits cant run Bangladesh
and thank god say I
Question Author
AB grand tradition indeed - PP's confused. Try googling #MeToo, PP. You know you're good at it. ;o)
You are confused naomi if you don't see the inanity of your "Where is #MeToo when they're needed?"
I thought the #meetoo movement was for any woman facing sexual assault globally? I think it applies here
Question Author
fiction-factory, spath's given you the answer. PP take note.
Issue is Naomi, getting touched up to benefit your career in a hollywood acting position doesn't compare at all to being set on fire for reporting sexual assault.

Hollywood doesn't care about these third world cultures and practises do they? Else where is the storm cloud of anger from them.

Think about it. Think about when Donald Trump was elected thousands marched in protest at something he'd said in changing room banter ten years earlier, and yet child marriage, FGM, female subjugation, etc., all pass without a peep from these self-professed champions of abused women. Why do you think that is?
They didn't protest because they cared for the women, they protested to try to not get him elected.
