Is it weird that I take off my shoes while at a friend's house, when her and her family leaves theirs on?

some do in our house, some don't, we're not bothered either way but no, we don't think it's weird.

If they are dirtying your carpet tell them to take their shoes off. If not don't bother and don't bother when round in their place.
