Teachers are not always smarter than their students. Using that logic, do the created have the ability to surpass the creators?

Wht not ? It's about potential. Humans have so much strenth yet can build machines that can move so much more. Humans have so much intelligence, so why couldn't they create machines that can understand so much more, eventually ?

its a scary thought, but i believe one day AI will take over, it already works in large machinery, robot arms in surgery, Harvesters run by satellites, so why not.
Automation is not AI.
Think of it from the human emotional perspective - what would it feel like to turn up for work one day - only to find out that you have suddenly been replaced by an algorithm?

The idea of AI surpassing us is an interesting one. How does one measure being surpassed? In this field, where we stand Vs the progress of AI is, to say the least, nuance. We don't have to see a Hollywood-style growth in AI that eventually out-thinks, and outmaneuvers humanity to be able to claim that AI has surpassed us. There are a lot of articles out there - this one in particular my Economist Sam Shaw stands out ( https://www.premierline.co.uk/knowledge-centre/will-ai-take-my-job-in-the-future.html ) talking about AI replacing jobs. This obvious impact in the workforce is one of the obvious arguments that, in a certain spectrum, AI is already surpassing us.
