This is a shot of the application form for a blue badge. The gender question only gives two options, male or female.

When can we expect similar forms to give 50 odd gender options ?

Technically gender is the state of being a male or a female so a 'gender' can only be male or female. Whatever sexuality or anything like that is completely redundant.

This is the right one,

Are you wondering whether you have made your position on this issue clear enough for the rest of us?

Because you have.
Can't it be like a relationship status? "Single", "Together", "It's complicated"

Or, more, Men, Women, Other ?
Considering what it is for might I suggest a single box. Irrelevant

It is not my position, it is the governments, so far at least.
Is the government going to be posting additional comments on Answerbank, too?
If it mattered when I were filling in the form then I'd contact the body involved and ask the lack of choice may be addressed.

If it didn't matter much to me, I'd close my eyes and pick one.
Question Author
I am just curious why the majority of forms for whatever purpose are still sticking to the term gender. Then offering a choice of two.
No, you're having a dig at those who have taken the trouble to explain that which you have chosen to ignore.

Not ignored just not accepted. They are not explanations, more personal opinions. To which we are all entitled.

Exactly what I have been saying.
There's an email link in here that may get you to the people who could assist re how forms are designed.

Not so spath and here lies the rub......gender is FEELING like a woman. Don't ask me what a female feels like...emotionally that is ;-)

Interesting Mamya, probably due to lobbying from the PC brigade.
I think that 'sex' would be better (if it's relevant and I'm not sure it is in this case) but sometimes people don't like to put the word 'sex' on forms- and you always get someone who'll put something funny in the box like "twice a day" .
Why do you ask, SK- are you troubled as you're unsure what to put?
WHAT? I love feeling women.. That doesn't make me one!

Not unsure at all, fully functioning red bloodied male.
I'll get some Steri Strips ;-)
///... fully functioning red bloodied male///
What does that even mean?

Julian Clary, Boy George and Graham Norton can claim the same...
