Self Aggrindisement?

Giving yourself a personality and behavioural assessment, do you ever think you act or speak in a way that is a, "put down," to others, whilst promoting yourself with regards to skill, intellect, expertise, etc?

I ask this as often I have felt like I am targeted for my beliefs, not simply in a way that is constructively critical, but motivated by self promotion and pure pleasure of the fabulous, "put down."

Or maybe I am just suffering from victimhood and paranoia.

Oh well. Something to be slinging mud about for.
Or an excuse for the slinging of mud.
Or welcome to the mud slinging fest.

I think there are people who constantly put others down because it makes them feel better about themselves. There are one or two on this site who are guilty of just that. You've just got to grow a thick skin.

You've just got to grow a thick skin.
Theland I think, that you think too much.
TL I agree with LCG. Some people have a low opinion of themselves, whether they admit it or not, and sling the mud to make themselves feel a bit better, or maybe they just like slinging mud.
Most everyone pushes themselves and their ideas forward at the expense of others, to some degree. Otherwise you simply don't achieve much in life. But singled out personal comments are poor behaviour and most see them for what they are. (Although I'd understand minor comments such as, if someone is clearly being an idiot over a period if time, for example, it's fair enough to point it out in the hope they'll stop, and reconsider their behaviour.)
What, like calling someone a nob, twice?
This is another one of those ‘ironic’ posts, isn’t it.
Don't you mean 'self axegrindisement'?
Very clever.
Theland gets bored at work on the night shift, goes onto AB, and dreams up something that might get a few responses. At the time of my posting this, Theland will be fast asleep. Yep, it's that boring! :o)
//I ask this as often I have felt like I am targeted for my beliefs//
You're not targeted. You're challenged to defend them. But in spite of the injunction given in 1 Peter 3:15
(Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect)
you often evade questions put to you.

what CG said..and Boaty
I think we`ve probably all had a brief interchange with someone and then walked away or hung up and then thought later was that a bit abrupt or impolite.
But aren’t NoM and WBM’s post doing exactly what they’re criticising?
no..observational
Fine line between ‘observational’ and ‘critical’.
no not really...
Mmm. I disagree. But for the sake of bonhomie will leave it there :-)
one can observe such behaviour and report it as being seen without criticism .. as above
I agree with what CG said about growing a thick skin. However Theland likes to play the martyr even though he's not adverse to slinging a bit of mud around himself.
Another observation. Offering an alternative argument or dispelling inaccuracies doesn’t equate to putting people down. Theland has this the wrong way around as do some of the others here, in particular those who, like Theland, regularly publish details of their personal lives. Seeking to impress or craving the endorsement of others signifies a lack of confidence and a character devoid of an appropriate sense of personal worth which, in turn, often creates a victim mentality. Those who do that are the people motivated by self-promotion. They need to self-promote. The rest don’t.
