Why Do Youths Hang Around Lamp Posts?

The youths around my local area always seem to be hanging around the lamp post right outside my house. There isn't a bench there, or any form of wall to lean on. They just stand there.

I recently got in trouble for vandalism section 52 due to painting anti climb paint on the lamp post. The only reason I did this was because they sometimes jump over the shed in my back garden, hurtle down the concrete alley going past my back door to just stand by the post... So I put it on the shed also.

Sometimes they are there for hours smoking and playing their 'hip-hop'.

Does anyone have any idea what else i could try without jeopardising my situation regarding the vandalism.

Are they doing any harm Gherkins? Sometimes just asking them nicely to move on does the trick :-) as was the case with my neighbours kicking a ball around the street, bouncing it off my car!

If the noise is loud after 11pm you can call 101 to speak to your local police, they will dispatch someone to ask them to move on. A few nights of that will do the trick. Good luck.
The lamp post is probably just a kind of central point, or gathering place, for them. It could just as likely be a park bench or a street corner. We need a psychologist here, I think, to explain this.

They don't do any harm, except cause a slight bit of noise. I think the real issue is they slightly scare me, I don't know why it's the lamp post right next to my house, but it is intimidating. I would talk to them, but in all honesty anthronerd i'm slightly worried. Especially after the paint incident, they must know it's me because it's on my shed!
Play loud classical music out of the window. No youth likes that, lol.

I'm unsure that would work. I don't like them to take much notice of me and i'm worried the whole paint fiasco has put me in direct 'target' from their antics.
Goths seem to like war memorials...why?
Question Author
war memorials should be respected and not associated with death, but more the celebration of life.
I know the classical music idea is probably not an option but it does work.

There used to be quite a few youths hanging around my station on the way home from work but since they started playing Beethovan they all seem to have dissapeared.
Smash the bulb in the light that will teach them .
Gotta meet somewhere. Lampost is simply a marker.
Maybe you need a Mosquito alarm.
put a lawn sprinkler on accidentally on purpose aimed at the post.
What a lot of spoilsports, where did you hang out when you were young? Crowd of us met at the loading bay of a jute mill for many years. Never did any harm to anyone.
Hanging out wasn't my thing.
(I hear one can be arrested for it.)
They need the light to be able to compare their acne.
When locals round here were warned that a bunch of hippies were about to arrive, complete with tents, to celebrate some sort of (very long !! ) heathen festival, the farmers decided to spread slurry at every field gate. Worked a treat. Can you leave something extremely smelly near the lamppost ?
Like Maggie, we used to have a meeting place - it varied as to which part of town we were in - a bus stop, phone box, bench etc.
I've no doubt we were a little loud at times but nothing dreadful.

I've sworn never to get as vindictive as my Mum (bless her) after the Church next door became a Temple, she took to smearing jam on her front garden wall, as men had been sitting there in a row smoking their ciggies.

Hello, how do i stop this website from emailing me?

I'm worried smashing the lamp post bulb will cause me further trouble with the council. I like the sprinkler idea, but it seems like it may cause me more nuisance.

Wasp or something like that. Depending on their age it irritates the hell out of them and they don't linger long.

However I think they were banned from 'corner shops' because it infringes their uman rights or something lol
