So it's vital to pursue alleged sex crimes from the 1960's, but police brutality in 1984 is too long ago to be pursued.

How odd, isn't it ?

Are you really comparing minor assaults with rape?
appears to be established law

after the acquittal of virtually all the convicted irish bombers
it was the turn of the those who had framed them

and they were all acquitted at the magistrates court on the grounds that it was all too long a time ago ( magistrate bartells I think )
I'm no great fan of the police but I do accept that the CPS would find it extremely hard to pursue a case against any specific officer for what occurred at Orgreave. Perhaps the IPCC is simply being realistic?

I've worked (on the railways) alongside a former Suffolk copper who was sent to assist at Orgreave (and elsewhere) during the miners' strike. He made no secret of the fact that he and his colleagues regarded it as an excellent opportunity 'for a bit of a punch up'. (He also mentioned removing their shoulder flashes, so that they couldn't easily be identified). I've little doubt that he committed criminal offences while on duty but I imply can't see how anyone could actually prove it.

Incidentally, that guy had previously been in the army. He had many weeks off work in order to attend the Blood Sunday enquiry, suggesting that he might have been one of the troops who'd opened fire on unarmed civilians. Perhaps we have to accept (however reluctantly) that the armed forces and police will always attract such people to their ranks?

A lot of cops earned a lot of money in overtime then, Chris.
But it still cannot be compared to rape!
Not everyone regards rape as a particularly serious offence, Ummm.

I've had two guys try to rape me, at knifepoint, on the floor of a public toilet n Ipswich. They only failed because someone came into the toilet. I met one of them a fortnight later and happily bought him a pint. (I'd have done exactly he same if he'd have succeeded in his aim in the toilet; I simply don't see it as important).
What???
Chris....it's you that's odd, it's you that's weird. You are devoid of emotion but the majority of the population aren't.

But we will win eventually, Ummmm!

The day will come (through eugenics) when ALL humans are devoid of emotion, caring and compassion. It can't come soon enough for me!
Chris...you're an insult to all rape victims. You feel how you do but don't forget that you're posting on a forum, as a moderator, that many victims post on.
Cannot believe the post... that has been posted!
I can't change my own views, Ummmm. I believe that we over-react to many crimes. For example I believe that murder shouldn't always be a custodial offence and that the absolute maximum sentence for ANY offence shouldn't be more than (at the very most) two years imprisonment.

However, as a moderator, I DO take other people's views into account. For example, I've removed posts that have been deliberately designed to cause offence to Christians (even though I detest Christianity) whle, at the same time, recognised Goodlife's right to post his constant twaddle (even though I'd love to ban him).
"We will win"... Who's we?
Can I smell alcohol?
The more I think about it. You're sick Chris!

>>>Who's we?

Those of us who see ALL emotions as WEAKNESS, MC, to be abhorred and removed from society. It makes no difference as to whether such emotions are love, hate, compassion, rage or whatever. They're all examples of inefficiency within the human race and need to be expunged. Our species won't have reached its logical end-point until we all function solely as machines, with EFFICIENCY as our sole goal.
You're a so called intelligent man. You should have enough intelligence to know that even if you don't feel things that most people do.

You sound like a serial killer!!

You keep notes on ABers...you find out their names, addresses and phone numbers, just from what they post on here.
>>>Can I smell alcohol?

A rather acceptable botle of Tempranillo, MC, but that makes no difference ;-)

>>>You're sick Chris!

On the autism spectrum, yes, Ummmm (and extremely proud of it!) but 'sick' is subjective!
>>>You should have enough intelligence to know that even if you don't feel things that most people do

I can't argue with that but my point is that I'm the lucky one who isn't handicapped by emotion; so-called 'normal' people simply fail to recognise that they're suffering from a massive disability.
Your efficiency to produce many, many, highly informative answers on this site is greatly appreciated. But I can't get my head 'round your earlier post.
