Labour will today, in the House of Lords, try to start the process to ban smoking in cars with children inside them today ::

Seems like a sensible idea to me, although the tobacco lobby predictably don't agree. ( surprise, surprise ! ) Anybody here on AB think that smoking in a car with children is a good thing ?

Disgusting habit at best, I'm surprised it's necessary. Time and again I've seen parents in the from Gassing there own kids in the back. They invariable have the "child on board" pointless sign, don't harm our kids but we'll just gas them with Cyanide and 500 other toxic chemicals! Lovely. Yes I agree with the ban but I'm sad that it's necessary.

How will this affect me? I have a child who insists on smoking in my car
No it's not a good thing nor with anyone else in such a confined space either.
Mikey, I don't think many people will say 'yes' to your question.

Ha ha Mrs O ! Well, you could tell her not to and if she refuses, drop her off at the nearest bus stop. Nobody would DARE to smoke in my car, thats for sure.
Mrs O...child? Insists..? Oh dear.

Tilly...not many I agree but there will be someone who will witter on about
their "freedom" I expect.
The child in question is over 16 BTW
How're they going to police it? There are still plenty of drivers using mobile phones, driving whilst drunk, even not wearing seat belts. What is the point in adding another offence to the ones they currently get away with. Any decent person wouldn't smoke whilst in a confined place with their kids anyway, the types that do wouldn't take any notice of the law.
great idea mikey re the bus stop!
Phew lol...but still your car I guess Mrs O....

A good reason then ratty, to repeal most laws, on the basis that the Plods can't enforce them !

Mrs O....the age of the child is immaterial...stand your ground !
if and when there are no smokers left in this country they will have to start on the drinkers
What's the point of a law if it not being enforced?
all laws are enforced it is only the important people who do not have to obey the law

As a child that used to be stuck in the car with a smoking mother I can only say bloody good job, and I hope they police it well.

It still makes me heave when I think of it :(
I worked in the tobacco industry for 30 years, was a heavy smoker but thankfully was able to kick the habit 30 odd years ago.

When I was smoking I never smoked in the car, and neither would I buy a car that somebody had smoked in however, you'll never stop people smoking in their car if that's what they want. Similar situation to using a mobile whilst driving, no amount of legislation will stop it.
Will this law eventually spread to smoking in your house? Especially if you/they have a young child baby who's unable to go in another room to escape it?
I can't believe anyone will say it's a good thing. Furthermore those who currently smoke with a child in the car won't take much notice of a law, we smokers already are well aware that it is wrong.
We have mass youth unemployment, immigration is out of control, Camoron is saying we now have to take in refugees from Syria, The E.U. is crippling this country with its petty rules and regs, we are paying millions into the E.U. pot for nothing, Elf and Safety has gone crazy, and ALL this petty, ill informed, overpaid bunch of illiterate morons can find to do is concern themselves with what people are doing in the privacy of their own cars. That is MY business, and no one else's, and heaven help ANYBODY who tries to tell me what I can and can't do inside my own vehicle! Bob
I agree Dylan, but only if it's not affecting anyone else that can't do anything about it.
