Does anyone think that it would be worthwhile for pensioners who are living on the breadline, struggling to eat and keep warm, to actually commit some non violent crimes in order to get themselves locked up in a nice warm cushy prison where they are fed and kept warm every day?

There is no such thing as a 'warm cushy prison'
They have clean bedding twice a week, 3 hot meals a day, televisions, radio. They would automatically get more of a voice because peiopkle would listen to their needs. The only problem I can envisage how would they be able to defend themselves?
many pensioners live on the poverty line because they are too proud to claim benefits that they are entitled to
They could fashion a chib out of a spoon handle. Younger inmates would soon learn to give them a wide berth. If the OAPs had no desire for release they'd be above prison punishments.
Also because of their age they would be more likely to drop the soap in the showers.
And they'd be locked in a 6ft x 6ft cell for most the day with no interaction. Hope they love the TV.
honeydip, that is disgusting.

Dave50, I can't believe someone would even think that prison would be a better choice.
As above, there is help for the elderly, but some chose not to claim through "pride". I don't doubt that many do live on the breadline, but prison is not a better alternative!
Sorry it was only a joke. Maybe a bit too far actually.
honeydip - I was going to say welcome to AnswerBank. You've only been here a month and already trying to lower the tone of the site. Shame on you.

It's something called common sense.

You'll soon learn...
I have emailed the Ed to try get it removed. If everybody rported it it will surely dissappear wont it?
They don't believe that though Jake. You post links and post experiences (not personal) and they still believe what the trashy papers say.
And Dave, would you be happy for our pensioners to 'have' to perform their bodily functions in front of strangers?
Well it's complicated isn't it?

There's a huge variation between a modern open prison and an old Victorian slammer like Wandsworth.

If you're a tabloid hack looking for a lazy 'cushy prizons' story no prizes for guessing which pictures you're going to print
What percentage of inmates are locked up 23 hours a day?
Don't know why you worrying, honeydip. You've got a fair way to go to lower standards on here ! A standard joke about prison life won't do it.
The prisons the old and infirm used to have were called "Workhouses".
I hope no-one is going to advocate a return to those conditions.
1) Have you ever been inside a prison? They are not the cushy hotel camps that the press would have you believe. They are foul stinking hell holes.
2) I am aware there are some who struggle, but my grandparents have no savings yet do absolutely fine on their pension. They are always going out, their house is nice and cosy, they run a car, they go on holiday etc. Mind you, they do grow a lot of their own veg.
