Why not make yourself a poll on something like surveymonkey, and post the link?
What is the "average British person"?
No idea.........I haven't asked them.

How do I feel about Americans?

I have got on well with the Americans that i have met and like their life philosophy of salary related efforts.

I feel more aligned to America than i do to Europe.

Just a personal view you understand.
generally favourable but seen as too ready to go to war and drag Britain along (though the latter of course is the choice of elected British politicians). Also, liberal gun laws are generally seen as a Bad Thing.

I never met an American I didn't like.
I think a fair number of brits see Americans as a comination of sterotypes

The overweight tourists from the mid-west who've never been out of the States before.

The Neurotic Woody Allen Jewish Urbanite

Teenagers chewing gum and talking some strange dialect.

Generally not particularly flattering I know

But then the stereotypes often have a basis in reality like the US stereotype of Brits as pompous people with bad teeth living in the past.
love the ones i know and have met!
I feel happier in the company of Europeans generally, but as individuals I have no issue with most of the Americans I have met. I don't like the way the sucessive Govts of the USA have behaved or their legal system and their idea that they really are 'Team America world Police' but that has nothing to do with individual Americans.
I personally don't see how persons nationality would help me decide whether I like them or not.
I have met quite a few Americans, mostly students and academics, the odd diplomat, cook and musician, particularly over the last few years. I have found them friendly, open minded and very courteous. The students that I have met have been a credit to their country. Some of them are a little ill informed about the world outside the USA but no more than the average European is about the USA. As in Britain their government's foreign policies are not representative of the attitudes of American citizens.
My Heroes have always been Cowboys !!
I must admit to not knowing many Americans but the ones I have known just want to spend their time bragging about the differences between UK and the USA. I have never had any desire to travel to the USA and I certainly prefer our lifestyle and culture.
Of the few I have met they've all liked the sound of their own voices a little too much but all were nice enough people.
RATTER...have you ever heard me bragging about differences between the UK and US?

I think it's incredibly narrow minded of you to lump people together in that way.

:-(
How long have you lived here Pasta?
Almost 23 years ummmm...

gee-I didn't realise it was *that* long...;-0
I have met some nice ones, but I hate to say my overall impression isn't very favourable. They tend to be a bit 'over the top' and a bit naive in my opinion. (Not you Pasta!!)

I feel very much more European than I do American and have no particular desires to go to the States, except for some of the scenery and wild life.
Pasta, I havent lumped anybody together, Specifically said

"I must admit to not knowing many Americans but the ones I have known"

I dindn t know you were American Past, I cant really say that I know you, sorry If I offended you Pasta, im just speaking as I find and just giving an honest reply to the original question.
The ones I've met seem false. It's like the learn how to act from watching adverts.
Some conversations I have had with Americans:

1. American tourist I met abroad: "Where are you from in England?"
Me: "Yorkshire"
American: "Ah you must know James Herriot then"

2. American working in a shoe shop in California: "Where are you from?"
Me: "England"
American: "Oh I feel sorry for you. I know you don't have enough food to eat and everything is rationed." (This was in the 1990's!)

I love Americans
lofty...."over the top"......could it not be that the Americans are normal and we are..........introverted?

Just a thought.

I love a bit of extroversion..."Hi, my names Dan and from Florida"

LUV it.
