I befriended someone in America who I loaned money to and subsequently this person broke off contact (yes I know, I should have been more sensible) Now I have found out that this person has stolen money from their family and the family have called in the FBI who are currently investigating (oh good!) BUT this ex-friend has now filed a complaint against me for identity theft and so it seems like the inference may be that I stole the money from a friends family....but the paperwork has been submitted naming me for identity theft (including using information or identification documents to get money, credit, loans, goods, benefits or services without this persons knowledge or consent) I am really innocent and simply never knew half of any details to even consider identity theft and I am more concerned right now as to what steps I should take to redress these allegations and clear my name. I am also interested as to what I can expect to happen in the near future? I mean - will the police arrive at my door? Will I receive a form to complete with my answers to these allegations? Should I instruct an English Solicitor to write a letter?

This person owes me money and will not repay or acknowledge me but is now stealing from family and is now filling in complaint forms with my name and address under identity theft - its no joke is it? So what is the best thing to do right now?
