Do they work?
Anthony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Paul Mckenna, Dr Phil, John Gray.Books on self hypnosis, nlp, self actualization etc. Are the only people benefitting from these books the authors themselves?
How many people have actually transformed their lives by reading these books?

Wizard69 - I'm still researching the questions you posed me. Thanks for your patience.
But, regarding your question, I am a bit sceptical of them but I wouldn't write them off, as so many people say they work .... for them, but I think not for everybody. And, I've been waiting for you to turn up on the new chatterbank site.
Hi, wizard69, I think that the epitome of this type of book would be a self-help book intended to help you write a self-help book!
Or maybe a book called, "Help Yourself From Being Banned."
allen carrs book, easy way to give up smoking, has helped me 4 times now to give up smoking
Why are you reading someone else's book? Its called SELF-help for a reason! Geddit?
They can help - it just depends on the depth of a person's problems. If it's just a bit of a mental 'kick up the backside' then, then yes, I think they work very well.

I think the ideas and methods they describe should be thought of as 'tools' in one's maintenance/repair kit. They don't supply a cure (your own will power and hard work will do that) but they can supply you with the necessary exercises/tools to do the job, if you see what I mean.

They help too many people to write them off so simply as others do.

thanks for your replies guys.Just been reading some reviews for a book called sham which is essentially an expose of the self help industry.Used to be a fan of tony robbins but the more I read about him now it would apear as if he is something of a con artist or at the very least, misguided. The same applies to deepak chopra and others.Im not saying that they dont have anything valuable to say but it can be difficult to seperate the wheat from the chaff.
i got the one that noel edmonds first read a few years ago, the Cosmic Ordering one, put my list in.....................still waiting??? lol
