How easy it for you to get to Oakham? There are some really nice shops, a castle, a small market, and there used to be a lovely little farm park just outside town.

Rutland Water's also good for a day out - boats, bikes, butterflies, walking, play areas etc etc
Belvoir Castle (Pronounced Beever) is close to you and is a pleasant day out.

I hope you realise you moved to officially the most boring place in Britain according to some survey!! I agree with both suggestions given above. At Xmas you must go to the Lincoln xmas market, lovely atmosphere if you dont mind the crowds! I live in Spalding which is around 45 minutes from you and you can enjoy a lovely 40 minute boat ride from the centre of town to Springfields which has a small select shopping parade with large indoor play area for the kiddies and beautiful gardens and walks. Have fun!
