I am from the US and attending a wedding next month in the English countryside. What is appropriate attire for a young under 30 woman? It is a daytime wedding. In the US a "little black dress" works for any occasion, but this does not seem the case in England. What colors or styles would be appropriate? Thanks!

Here are a couple of sites to brouse through mught give you some idea. I think most things go these days I usually go for either a dress and jacket or suit with toning bag, shoes and hat. A lot depends on the time of year too. I hope you have a good time anyway.

A little black dress usually looks smart and attractive,it should be fine. Possibly a suite, preferrably with skirt is smart but maybe a little formal. You ndon't want to outshine the bride . Enjoy our countryside whatever you decide
I'm not so sure about the LBD to be honest, maybe its just me but black is usually the colour for funerals in this country, I would wear floaty, flowery pale colours but not white, think that is the usual - cant go wrong! Have a lovely day! x
A LBD wouldn't be good at this time of year ~ as caz has said, something floaty but plain/light colours would be great. Flowery dresses don't suit everyone, and not everyone likes them anyway!

Something like this:

Would look nice, teamed with some contrasting accessories...maybe a little cardigan/shrug/shawl for the chilly evening! hope you have a lovely time :o)
Just make sure you don't look anything like these (ps these are very much a minority over here!)

Oh my good god. That Katie Price has SO much to answer for!
I'm surprised noone mentioned a hat...
Hats are generally optional, although there are some couples who will specify 'no hats' or 'formal dress' which indicates a wish for their female guests to wear a hat.

By no means is it considered the 'done thing' anymore.
Team your LBD with a fab hat. You'll look great!!
A lot depends if it`s a church, registrars office or a hotel or other venue licenced for marriages. Is it a tradional "white wedding" or not.

Thanks everyone for the great advice!! Definitely some helpful input. To answer the question - It is a daytime wedding - at a hotel though, no church, but I've still been told that it is a formal affair.

denisegordon - the link to those pictures were hysterical! I will make sure to NEVER dress like that no matter what country I am in! :)

Thanks again!
That was hilarious, denisegordon. Photo 10 made my eyes hurt, but I particularly liked 'the accused' in photo 4. Good work!
hi there - i find that coast dresses: http://www.coast-stores.co.uk/site.htm are always perfect for a wedding. have fun!
No doubt ..lbd is always a good option for any occasion. But as it is day time event , do not wear lbd.
Get some knee length dress that would be fine for wedding. You can choose any color that suits you. Do not choose white or ivory as it reserve for the bride. You can ask them if they have any theme for wedding so that you dress according to that. Get here some tips for choosing your wedding dresss
