I'm considering moving to Burton-upon-Trent. Does anyone have any information with regards to the area? When buying a house, are there any particular areas I should avoid, or aim to move to?

It smells cos of the brewing. Mind you, only been through there on the train and the line goes right past breweries so that might be a bit of a generalisation!

From what i can tell its very nice. Well connected by road and rail.Close to lots of other big towns and cities.
Bit dull but nice town centre and there doesnt seem to many rough areas. Sorry i cant be specific but i think generally it seems alright.
The smell is much better now. It used to smell of Tyres from Pirelli, The beer from the breweries, bovril from whoever made that, and the robirch slaughterhouse, which was very close to the train station. Much of the above industries have changed or relocated now, so it is a lot cleaner :)

Plenty of pubs in and around Burton (at one time 365 in Burton alone allegedly). Some nice countryside and villages in the locality... Yoxall, Barton, Rolleston, Repton, Tutbury are some examples that spring to mind.Modern shopping centres and multiplex cinema, biggish library, sports centre and swimming pool close to the centre of town, and some scenic walks along the River Trent which runs through the town.

I grew up in that neighbourhood, so have fond memories, possibly biased :)
Just to add that if you are thinking of buying, I dont know what your price bracket or house preference is, but I would look at the surrounding villages if it was me. In town itself, certain areas of Winshill are quite nice now, Stapenhill has matured, and there is a very series of housing developments between Newhall and Stapenhill.

Thanks all, that's all really helpful to know.
avoid the ghettos of winshill and stapenhill if you value your alloys! tutbury ,hatton, repton or swadlincote are better areas.
