I'm not sure this is the best place for this question, but given that sociology is about people... anyway. I'd like to get an introductory sociology book, but not one for total beginners or, y'know, 'for dummies', as i've done a post-grad qualification in sociolinguistics so do have some background and am able to understand complex theory etc... If anyone's got any suggestions for a good place to start - either a textbook or a reader - that would be great.

Haralambos is an author who is like the god of sociology, we were told to get it for a levels and its a bit hard going but it explains basically everything.

Thanks, i'll give it a go.
I'll second Haralambos, it's a great book which covers so much stuff and is written in a pretty readable style.

I read a couple of Amazon reveiws of this Haralambos book - i presume you mean the 'Sociology Themes and Perspectives' - it does sound like the sort of thing i'm after. Thanks to both of you - though if anyone can think of another i'm still interested to know - i'll probably check them out in the library before buying anyway.

Cheers!
