Litvinenko? Time to Forget?

David Cameron will become the first British PM to make an official visit to the Russian Government since the murder five years ago of Aleksandr Litvinenko.
Meanwhile, Litvinenko's suspected killer Andrei Lugovoy (interviewed by the BBC last night on a smart-looking yacht off the Kamchatka Peninsula) has long since become a member of the Russian parliament.
There seems little chance that Lugovoy would ever be extradited to the UK, although he would be arrested on an international warrant should he set foot in many foreign countries.
Should the UK government "let bygones be bygones" and "reset" relations with Russia, or is this a crime that must not be so symbolically "swept under the carpet"?

Unfortunately we sometimes have to see the bigger picture and "let bygones be bygones" if the alternative is not in the national interest.

It was a nasty murder, it was disrespectful to do it on our soil, and the Russians were arrogant. But need to trade with countries which is why Cameron is taking a coach load of BP bods to see Putin next week.

The current Russian PM may well be president again by next spring, if he appoints himself to that post in the meantime ...

Anyone would think it strange to murder your own citizens. We do it all the time in Britain. Just think of David Kelly... the doctors are now taking the case to court about an unlawfdul killing. Then there was that chap who worked for News International coming a cropper because he spilled the beans.

Litvinenko was British as a matter of fact although that fact is about as relevant as your contribution. David Kelly I think it's been established beyond any reasonable doubt committed suicide

I don't think we should forget. There's no chance of capture though. Putin cannot be collared, even if he is implicated by the evidence, since that just invites baseless detention of our officials when they visit Russia - standard tit for tat stuff.

If we want an easy life, we have to let justice fall by the wayside. Makes you sick, doesn't it?

Eh? If so, he went to extraordinary lengths to make it look like a murder.
What was his supposed motivation for suicide?
