'P' Company
Just come across this category and as ex RN and Army I welcome it. even though there are other dedicated sites, ie Rum Ration and ARRSE.
I didn't really have a question but as this is a forum for answers I suppose I'd better ask one.
What was your worst experience on 'P' Company ? (Airborne selection course).
Mine was in the 'milling' contest where you fight another soldier ( with boxing gloves) . First, I was thumped on the head by a DS (directing staff) for boxing rather than fighting, then when my opponent went down with a lacerated ear I was bawled out for stepping back. I had to go to strike him again, but the DS stopped me when he saw I was prepared to do it.
Incidentally, we both passed and went to the same battalion and remained firm friends !

I wasn't Para so didn't do 'P' Coy but I did do the French Commando course which is run on prety much lines (excuse the pun on 'lines')
We also did 'milling' which I didn't find to be a problem (we did it in the infantry too), however on the course we had to do the 'self righting' thing which you do while crawling along two ropes suspended 6" above foul stinking ice cold water. Basically, you let go with your feet and are expected to dangle for a few seconds and pull yourself up onto one rope and contiue pulling yourself along said rope to the end, easier said than done!!
It's a 'skill' which is perfected eventually, usually after you've been in the water about 6 times.
