In the mail there is an article about cutlery. We are being racist if we eat with a knife and fork. We should use our fingers. What on earth is going on!!

Regardless. it's utter nonsense.
If you get beyond the headline in the Daily Wail, which is deliberately designed to get 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' and 'Equally Disgusted of Cinderford' up in arms (because that's the way the Wail works), the main core of what Joshna Maharaj says is actually perfectly reasonable:

"We shouldn't be teaching kids that they're not supposed to eat with their hands at all or that eating with cutlery is a more refined or sophisticated way to eat.

Different people eat their food in different ways... The better message, I think, is that sometimes we eat with our hands and sometimes we eat with cutlery."

I normally use cutlery but, like many people, I'll pick up a slice of pizza to eat it with my hands and if, for example, I'm in a restaurant serving North African food, I'll probably eat rice or couscous with my fingers.

Sorry chris, I resent being called racist for eating with a knife and fork.
she doesn't say that. She says kids should be taught to use their hands as well as cutlery. And since kids routinely eat things like chips with their hands all the time, I don't know why either side are getting their knickers in a twist.
Chris, I remember the first time I ever went to a pizza restaurant (they were quite new once upon a time) and the menu said "In Italy pizza is traditionally eaten with the fingers". So we did.

Perhaps the equivalent menus in Britain said "Don't eat with your hands, you dirty little oiks." But I doubt it.
>>> I resent being called racist for eating with a knife and fork

The Daily Wail has a racist and xenophobic agenda, which it pursues by feeding bait to its readers to make them throw up their arms in horror at things.

Don't take their bait, Caran.

Read what Ms Maharaj has really said (in my quote above) and you'll see that
(a) she's not calling you, or anyone else 'racist' ; and
(b) it actually makes a great deal of sense.
I decided to follow this ladys teachings. However i am never going to get another bowl of soup from my local restaurant ever again. Can i send this eejit a bill for my laundry?
I bet Joshna thought no one had read her piece, a whole year before outrage broke out? Tsk.
Does anyone eat bread, cake or biscuits with a knife and fork?
>>> " . . . since kids routinely eat things like chips with their hands all the time, I don't know why either side are getting their knickers in a twist"

For many decades I always followed the formal British ways of doing things, such as the ridiculously impractical way of eating peas or baked beans with the tines facing downwards and using a knife and fork to eat a leaf salad. These days the tines of my fork face upwards and I use my fingers to stuff salad leaves into my mouth. (Indeed, I'll probably consume an entire salad meal without the aid of cutlery). It's got nothing much to do with 'cultural awareness; though; it's simply a recognition of the easiest way to do things.
I decided to follow this nutjobs teachings, but she makes no reference to eating(drinking)soup. Are we supposed to eat soup through our hands. What an eejit.
Did you *** on the floor next to your table, as well?
So much easier than walking all the way to the toilet.
^Is that another recommendation from this anti-spoon eejit?
This is from the original article,

"We shouldn’t be teaching kids that they’re not supposed to eat with their hands at all or that eating with cutlery is a more refined or sophisticated way to eat. Different people eat their food in different ways. My father’s instructions were very detailed, with a big focus on being tidy and efficient and maintaining Hindu customs around cleanliness and purity. There is a very mannered way to eat with your hands, and there are more than a billion people around the world who eat this way."

I have never, over numerous years, quite mastered a technique of eating corn-on-the-cob with a knife and fork...From now on, to Hell with those danged implements.
People just love to get hot under the collar.

#Always eat mangoes naked in the bath.
Nonsense,TCL,what about eating soup. Are we supposed to use chopsticks or use our hands. If using a spoon is"racist",how the hell are we supposed to eat (drink)soup?
Chris, it took me a very long time to break free of my mother's training and eat peas off a knife that was turned "upside down". She was really cross. I was only 30. But even she was okay with using fingers to eat fish and chips.
