I know absolutely nothing, zilch about cameras-it's a foreign language to me so please keep it simple! I need a camera, digital or otherwise, who knows, for close-up shots and I do mean close-ups. I'm a face-painter and need to add actual photos to my menu so need accurate colours and detail to show up- a distant face is no good. I don't have hundreds to spend-will spend up to about 80. I don't want to buy something and find it's no good for this sort of shot and I've wasted my money. Please can someone advice-bearing in mind I know nothing about cameras so it has to be something that's simple to use and also quick. Many thanks.

Why not go into a good camera shop and ask their advice. Maybe you have a Jessops near you? Some camera shops have second hand cameras for sale so you can sometimes get a really good camera for not a lot of dosh.
you don't actually want to get right up to a person's face with your camera as the resulting picture will be distorted (it will appear more or less circular) so what you need is one where you can stand back a bit and if necessary zoom in (which doesn't have the same distorting effect). I can't personally recommend any particular model, but most cameras these days will do it more or less well, though it seems to me that few cope well with dim light. For detail you will need a decent number of megapixels, probably 5 or more, but again most cameras these days offer this. You won't get the very highest quality on that budget but there should be plenty that suit your needs.
spudqueen Jessop have folded !
Jessops are closing 81 stores but keeping 234 open, so you should be OK there, as jnos says what you need is a zoom, an optical one is what you want.

Sorry about that, put an s on the end of jno and ended up resubmitting in an attempt to correct.
