Hi there,

I'm off on another ghost hunt, but this time we're on our own (not the paranormal group we are used to) but we are trying out a scientific approach as we really are looking for proof.

We were wondering what 'old school' ways is there using paper, sand candles etc...

Also I am not religious, but should we be saying a protection prayer? Or alternatives?

Thank you :0)

P.S I realise people will have their opinions on this!

I ghosts do not exist then saying a prayer is unlikely to be a problem. If they do, and you come across them, and they are friendly, then saying a prayer is unlikely to be a problem. If they do and you come across them, and for some inexplicable reason are out to get you and can, then saying a prayer is unlikely to be a problem and could possibly help, as long as there is someone to answer it and opts to help.

I suspect you'll find you didn't need it though.

If you have been on these sorts of hunts before, then surely you have an idea of what scientific stuff you need ? Unsure about bell, book and candle, or even sand and paper. But it all sounds interesting though. Don't scare yourself to death or someone will be hunting you next.
*If ghosts...*

I really don't believe what gets posted and how different it always seems to be from which keys I pressed >:-(
OG - is your keybooard haunted maybe?

Pinky, this sounds really interesting. I'd love to hear how it goes. Even if you are not religious yourself, it would make sense from a purely psychological point of view to protect yourself in some way, by a prayer or by visualising some kind of protective circle around yourself. Hope it all goes well.
//we are trying out a scientific approach as we really are looking for proof. //

If you're trying out a 'scientific approach', why bring religion into it? I strongly suspect that what you're seeking has no connection whatsoever to religion. Science and superstition don't mix.
Either every PC I come across is haunted, or dementia is kicking in early. I suspect the latter.
What kind of scientific approach did you have in mind? it seems a guaranteed way of not finding ghosts. The less scientific you are the more ghosts you are likely to 'find'.
trays of soft sand with a small ball on the surface that can be moved leaving a track a pendulum with a web cam and recorder to see if it starts to move, paper and soft pencils ..... and electronic thermometers to check 'cold spots' but redcrx is the 'expert' for this she might have some proper advice for you

Note you won't find anything but hope you have fun anyway
Hi Pinky,
There's a saying.... "there are no Atheists on a sinking ship". That aside, YOU HAVE TO KEEP US UPDATED on this one. I have experienced, (felt and seen on different occasions), some strange things, but because I could not 100% confirm that these were ghosts, I have left my mind open to them. I do think that there is definitely something after death, from personal experience after I died on two occasions one night, and had the famous "Out of body experiences". That is a memory that is as fresh as if it just happened.
I would be inclined however to still take along some of the basic equipment such as a digital voice recorder and digital thermometer.
Good luck again

Hi all, thanks for your replies and sorry I didn't update you, been waiting on a new router for ages.

Well anyway, we had a fantastic night and mostly nothing happened (as we expected). Some used a glass, which did move but I really think that people can move accidental or on purpose so I didn't really like this testing as proof at all. We did a lot of calling out and listening mostly, although we did try table tipping, but this had no effect at all.

Well the following morning my sister and I was woken by a woman’s voice in our room ordering us out of bed, now one explanation is a woman outside our room. Even though we did open the door as soon as we could. It was weird as we both heard the same thing. Another phenomena was photos we took afterwards with funny shaped floating. When zoomed in, there are very interesting things to see and clearly a woman face.

We were very pleased with the findings, but still I am yet to find absolute proof and I will carry on looking! :0)
Hi pinky pie, if your looking for more scientific proof with methods such as pen and paper and candles without the need for electronic equipment, then with candles its a tricky one. there has to be no draught coming through and all exits sealed, and stood far away o you know its no anyones breath. If its pen and paper, perhaps you could draw around a trigger object and leave it in sealed room to see if it moves or not. or maybe leave the pen in a planchette on paper untouched to see if it moved. for more tips onn ghost hunting, try prestige paranormal http://www.prestigeparanormalevents.co.uk as they have useful tips on the subject.
You would not need a protection prayer as such, only if you are doing a hand held sceance or the ouija. Some people dont use it at all, but its there for peace of mind and doing a protection bubble stops spirit getting too close thats passed away from something traumatic that would affect you ie if someone was stabbed in the stomach, then it would stop the conditions of thier passing being affected on you when they are close by. I would say if your going on a ghost hunt, and using these items, to have a camera filming it whilst you are not there, or to use electronic equipment ie emf meters laser thermometers etc. As a sceptic myself, what cant speak, cant lie so its always handy to have items that can detect paranormal activity and have it documented in some way
