I know that perhaps this should be in shopping or technology but I figure I will get more answers here. I am in the process of buying a 40" plasma/lcd television for the first time so can anybody tell me what to look for ie getting ready for HD etc. I dont know much about them but to be honest my sister has one and a few friends and I dont think the picture is as sharp on them as my own old television -

2 friends have samsung
my sister has sony and I find the same about both.

Thanks for any enlightenments.

what answer were you looking for, coz surely if you know the answer you dont need to ask :-) nots?
I have a samsung lcd not plasma and it is fabulous clear bright picture
It is also hd ready
well the picture quality is only going to be noticably different if you are playing HD programs.

if you're watching sport then a high frame rate would be good, look for 100 or 200MHZ i think it is

for Blu-ray to be played at its best then a full HD 1920 x 1080 would be best.
HDMI cables are best for connecting other equipment, rather than scart, so try and get a TV with a few of each.

Ive got a JVC 42" lcd and for day to day stuff its good, but is really good when playing Blu ray
but the newer blu ray films are better, no point getting goonies on bluray as was never filmed in HD. HD's good on sport and high action films and cartoons like pixar are amazing

thanks for your answers but you wont believe it what is a blu ray.
a blu ray is like a dvd player but plays bluray discs in HD
yes, its an HD format, looks like a DVD but need to be played on a Blu-ray player (these also play DVDs though)
