has anyone heard of a toy with this name? my mate thinks she had one as a kid, ive never heard of it though, would date from the 70's - 80's if they existed

Yes I can remember it , you had to pick people out of it's mouth with a tweezer and it made an awful noise.

In the 70s there were plastic figurines of the purple people eater and a game - you had to save little people from the mouth of the purple people eater.
