I don't know any addresses but there are some good stores in Camden for vinyl

Try Beanos in Croydon. The shop is an interesting mauve colour and also houses masses of memorabilia.

Beanos is still around? WOW! I remember hanging out in that shop around 27 years ago *gulp*

It was like a treasure trove :o)

Definatley go there if you can!

Might help: http://music.hyperreal.org/london/ or see: http://www.trugroovez.com/record-shop-a.htm

Pippa68 - if its dance music - you never knocked around the record store and basement store in Berwick Street did you? We had some of the first Space Invaders machines (had to spend free time somehow...) and the best music - everyone on the 'all-dayers' got there at some time - and then ended up at a stack of the events in town with the t-shirt stall for all the gigs. Very fuzzy memories floating past there! - Rainbow Finsbury Park, Winter Gardens Margate, Gold Mine Canvey Island, Blue Parrot Uxbridge, Caister Weekenders, Isle of White and the Hammersmith Apollo, Slough Community Centre - ooooh the ringing in the ears..

Nope..can't say I remember that ~ I was into New Romantic stuff at the time!

Although I did broaden my tastes a bit later on & got into soul/funk stuff (to be honest really it was always there!)

I did get a chance to go to Caister one year..Level 42 were my passion at the time, but unfortunately I came down with a severe case of flu so couldn't go. After that I think the 'moment passed' and I have always regretted not trying to get to more :o(

There's an excellent vinyl shop in East Finchley - thinks it's called Ray's - closed on Sundays and Mondays though. Near the greek meze restaurant.
There is a shop in Addiscombe, Shirley Road, just outside Croydon called Vinyl Resting Place I think, well I know the shop is there, just not sure of the name. I agree, Beanos is incredible but moved a road up about 6 years ago

Hi pippa68 - caught Level 42 at a gig at the Slough Community Centre 'before they were famous ' and still wearing there American football outfits - very odd look for the time..

Can't remember the exact year of them Caister - it wasn't the same year as UK Players, Shakatak and the Fox Family was it? I had a really (seriously really) good time then - Caister and some of the other weekend events were really well organised and no trouble - everyone just wanted to party with the music...

Awww ~ so Beanos isn't the 'flea pit' it once was? it was incredible..very topsy-turvy and the stairs were a bit 'eeek'.

nickmo ~ yes I thinnk Level 42 played the same year as Shakatak (I liked them too!) I first went to see them in 1985 so missed them before they were famous ;o) however it was at a time when they were still playing a lot of their old stuff..cracking tunes! of course they went all crappy and I lost interest ~ still play a lot of their good stuff now, though.

The good ole days, eh?

Hi pippa68 - good ole days? At what age do you start to say things like 'I remember when...'?

I think I've already started . . . .next thing you know you'll be coming up with Freeeze, Imagination, and humming 'Joy and Pain' all day long . . .or is that just me?

Ooops here we go... Maceo Parker . .the Blackbyrds . . .George Duke - has to be 'Brazilian Love Affair'...

Better stop now as I'm off on a real trip with this.

Oh I have already started that too :o)

Brass Construction..Maze...Rufus...Imagination (yum)..Fatback..D Train...Kleeer..

I think I have arrived!!

Pippa68 - you don't mean Leee do you as a 'yum'? I used to play pool with him at Le Beatroute - looks rubbish in his pants.....vague memories of a gig at the Pink Elephant in Luton as well, beers and 'recreational' activities then the show. Who says mis-spent youth?

Maze featuring Frankie Beverley..one of the best. . .'...sunshine...and rain...' you know how it goes, ... and if I could chuck in Fela Kuti, Bootzilla (bit radical but brill at 4 in the morning after 43 snakebites), Richie Cole - 'New York Afternoon' - a jazz standard - dare I say Heatwave as well, AWB of course, T Connection, MFSB, Spyro Gyra - good for a chill out, like Weather Report - who needs Ibiza?!! - Lonnie Liston Smith, Roy Ayers - good grief that guy could play. What happened to D Train anyway? ( ok just googled and James Williams is still performing..)

I can see there really is a room for a revival - do these get played 'on air' any more? Nothing over commercial but cracking good stuff. Maybe someone should let the techno/rap fans in on the secret..

and apologies to totr0X but maybe some ideas here anyway?

Big apologies on hijacking the thread!

Oh no...I didn't mean 'yum' as in 'coooor' I meant the sounds, LOL. a big YES to all those others you mentioned. Sadly not many of them get played on the radio..not mainstream anyway, although I have heard a few on my good ole local radio station :o)

I just have to content myself with my much loved vinyl collection ~ and a few I have updated to CD.

Did you mention Parliament?

Hi pippa68 - Bootzie was in there - so sort of mentioned Parliament - very funky.

Don't tell me - you had the star shaped glasses??

And time now to get all slushy with Donny Hathaway - excellent duet album with Roberta Flack - absolutely the best ever version of 'Back Together..' - Patrice Rushen, Jocelyn Brown - looks like there'll be no sleep for the neighbours tonight!

Hey ho, off to some easy listening now I suppose - aren't policemen getting younger, Do you remember when all this was fields? Oooooh, the weather today, I'll just have a nap I think...(hums to self as cardigan gets too cold and thinks a jumper would be nice...)

Sorry about that..I am so old I had to have a 30 minute nap! dunno about the policemen, but those teachers are sure getting younger too.

Oh yes, Bootsie..no I didn't have the glasses ~ I might have been mistaken for Elton ;o)

I forgot Patrice Rushen..and of course Evelyn King..aaahhh. Got to find some more tunes!

Well, as a last offering as this seems to be turning into 1982 on here, (and I hope the nap was enough, pet ...) lest we forget - and I'm digging deep into the alzheimers here - Eddie Jeferson, the Jazz Warriors, Taste of Honey, the JB's - faves of the Hacienda and the northern soul circuit - Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Johnny Bristol, Team Ten, Anita Baker - phew worn out now.

Right - off to put on the cap sleeved T and some Birmingham bags and wait for the spotlight. I'm ready for my close up now, Mr DeMills........boy the neighbours are def. going to suffer tonight. Must go for the vinyl fix..
