Are there any other way that tomatoes can be ripened without coming from the vine

We used to put them in a drawer and leave them to to turn red. I have read that if you put them in a paper bag with a banana that they ripen quicker

Well you have to grow them on a vine, so they all come from a vine.

When in the supermarket look out for 'Windowsill Ripened Tomatoes'. Can't beat 'em.
