been tasked with the above, it needs to have a camera and have access to web/apps etc but my budget is £50-100. This is for an older lady who is not used to computing so it needs to be basic & she needs a large screen as possible because of her eyesight. (i think a tablet or notebook would be better but she is insistent on a smart phone)

I've been looking at this but it has mixed reviews - does anyone have one or have knowledge of the brand?

I would suggest a second hand Galaxy note, maybe a 1 or a 2. they are probably the biggest smart phones, I dont think any of the smart phones are terribly easy to use, especially for the elderly but the the Note is fairly straight forward for the basic user.

To be honest, if she has never used a computer and is elderly, it could just be too confusing for her, she will probably require a lot of help with it, but if she wants to give it a go, why not.

i thought of the note, but i'm wary with second hand with smartphones.

this is not going to be fun, but shes insistent so fair play to her.
Im on my third Note and not had a problem with them but they have always been new ones. I was thinking screen size as much as anything.

I have a Huawei Ascend Y300 as a 'back-up phone' good large 4" screen, very easy to use and good battery life. the G510 has a bigger screen 4½" and will be my next spare in a couple of months, believe you can buy Sim-free for under £100.
I have recently started using a Samsung Galaxy Fame S6810, & had a little difficulty at first but with aid from very helpful O2 staff @ my local O2 shop am now coping well. My phone cost £60 so well within your budget, have a word with O2 shop people.

I did think the screen size of the note, but even looking at second hand ones they look to be out of the price range. I'll take a loom at the g510 ad well, cheers

My experience is different, I have a Samsung Galaxy Mini III and it does all I want it to

same here, i have an s4 full size and its brillaint, i love it. i would like her to have samsung as it will be easier for me to help her if im already familiar. I think i might try to persuade her to come with me to a phone shop so we can look at models
